Royal Oaks Country Club is seeking a highly motivated and career-driven Senior Second Assistant Superintendent to join our agronomy team during one of the most exciting periods in the club’s history.
Originally designed by Fred Couples, the golf course is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation led by Beau Welling Design. The project includes the construction of new TifEagle Bermuda putting greens, installation of Bunker Solution bunkers, a new Rain Bird IC irrigation system, and the conversion of all remaining playing surfaces to NorthBridge Bermuda.
To support both the renovation and the continued development of our maintenance operation, we are expanding our management team by adding a Senior Second Assistant Superintendent. The successful candidate will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Equipment Manager in all aspects of golf course maintenance, construction oversight, grow-in operations, staff development, and daily course presentation.
While this position will initially function as a Second Assistant Superintendent role, we are seeking an experienced turf professional capable of assuming increased leadership responsibilities as opportunities arise. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual looking to accelerate their career while gaining valuable experience in renovation, grow-in management, advanced irrigation technology, warm-season turfgrass management, and high-level private club operations.
Position Summary
The Senior Second Assistant Superintendent works directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to coordinate and execute daily maintenance operations while helping lead and develop the maintenance team.
This position plays an important role in supervising staff, monitoring turf health, implementing agronomic programs, coordinating daily work assignments, and ensuring the golf course is maintained at the highest level of conditioning and presentation.
Renovation & Grow-In Experience
Establishment and grow-in of TifEagle Bermuda putting greens • Establishment and management of NorthBridge Bermuda on fairways, tees, approaches, roughs, and surrounding turf areas • Installation, commissioning, and management of the Rain Bird IC irrigation system • Construction coordination with contractors, consultants, and project managers • Development and implementation of agronomic programs following course reopening • Preparation of the golf course for member play following completion of construction
Key Responsibilities
Assist in planning and executing daily golf course maintenance operations • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance staff • Assist in implementing fertility, irrigation, and pest management programs • Monitor turf health and playing conditions throughout the property • Coordinate daily crew assignments and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently • Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and water management • Maintain detailed records related to agronomic programs and course conditions • Assist with tournament preparation and special projects • Participate in renovation, construction, and grow-in activities • Promote a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
Qualifications
Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred • Minimum of 2–4 years of golf course maintenance experience preferred • Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred • Experience with warm-season turfgrass management preferred • Knowledge of bermudagrass maintenance practices and irrigation management • Ability to obtain or maintain a Texas Pesticide Applicator License • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills • Self-motivated with a desire to continue learning and growing within the profession • Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Competitive compensation package with a starting salary of approximately $65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Royal Oaks Country Club is an 18 hole private club located in Houston, Texas. Originally opened in 2000 and designed by Fred Couples, it is now under renovation led by Beau Welling Design. The course is receiving a full makeover with all new green complexes, bunkers and a new Rainbird IC irrigation system. The fairways, tees, and roughs will be grassed with Northbridge Bermuda and the greens will be grassed with TiffEagle Bermuda.
