The Beverly Country Club, located in Chicago Illinois, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join a high-performance agronomy team during an exciting period of capital investment, championship conditioning, and long-term infrastructure planning. This role is ideal for an aspiring Superintendent who wants hands-on leadership experience, deep agronomic development, and involvement in major improvement projects at a historic private club.
Club highlights:
2025 Maintenance Budget: $2.5M
Total annual rounds: 20,000
Total staff: 30 (12 full-time, 18 part-time)
Typical work schedule: Weather dependent; mornings begin prior to staff meeting; weekend/holiday rotation
Future projects: New irrigation system, bunker drainage projects, continued course improvement initiatives
Irrigation system: Toro
Equipment: John Deere & Toro—$1.1M newly purchased, all owned

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:
Learn the property, staff, and daily operational flow
Establish consistency in course conditioning and detailed presentation
Integrate into the management team and support a positive staff culture
Take ownership of irrigation and moisture management
Assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications
Support and participate in ongoing course improvement projects
Help reinforce and elevate the standards and expectations across the property
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND APTITUDE:
Staff scheduling, training, and daily leadership
Irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair
Moisture management and hand watering
Daily course setup and execution of maintenance standards
Cultural practices including aerification, topdressing, and grooming
Participation in drainage and turf improvement projects
Tournament preparation and execution (including Western Amateur)
Equipment operation and ability to train staff
Support implementation of upcoming capital improvements
Strong communication and ability to hold self and team accountable
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management (preferred but not required)
4–7 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience
Supervisory or crew leadership experience
Experience with fertilizer and pesticide applications
Strong irrigation and water management skills
Illinois pesticide license or ability to obtain
Ability to excel in a high-expectation, detail-oriented environment
Candidates without preferred education will be considered if experience is strong
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary range: $76,000–$90,000

The agronomy team is committed to delivering elite playing conditions built on accountability, attention to detail, consistency, and professionalism.
The club supports long-term career development through education, certification support, modern equipment, and meaningful involvement in decision-making and project execution. Beverly will host the Western Amateur this year and is planning significant capital projects, including a new irrigation system and bunker drainage work.
