Position Summary: Makes major and minor mechanical repairs on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Directs the work of the assistant equipment technicians. Assists with leading, managing, training, developing and coaching the assistant equipment technicians. Assist and train the golf course maintenance staff in operating the maintenance equipment correctly and safely.
Essential Job Functions:
Inspect, adjust, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on golf course maintenance equipment.
Maintain equipment in efficient, operable condition at all times.
Maintain an effective daily inspection program, records of preventative maintenance, repairs made, orders and time worked for all maintenance equipment.
Supervise, train, motivate and effectively direct the assistant equipment technicians in a safe, efficient manner.
Establishes and maintains safety procedures for using equipment.
Organize and maintain a clean service and maintenance building.
Operates and checks the mowers daily on the golf course to ensure cut quality and proper equipment function.
Maintain inventory of common equipment maintenance and repair parts.
Orders parts and or shop supplies as needed. Submits large orders that require approval to the Director or Golf Course Maintenance Equipment.
Operates vehicles to transport goods, equipment, or personnel. Drives and parks vehicles safely and responsibly in accordance with all traffic laws and company policies.
Performs all work of the assistant equipment technicians.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform mower grinding and sharpening while maintain the highest cut quality possible.
Repair transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starts, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, and high-pressure pumps and valves, installs and adjusts brakes.
Install batteries, tires, wiring, and glass.
Undertakes body and fender work, fabrication, welding, troubleshooting and repairs to hydraulic and electrical systems.
Dispose of various oils, chemicals and other residues (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.) properly.
May perform other assignments and duties, as area needs require.
Pursues continuing education for all related golf course manufacturer’s equipment.
Communicates with the Director of Golf Course Maintenance Equipment and/or Golf Course Superintendent any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment.
Licensure/Certification:
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Company drivers who are Florida residents must obtain a valid Florida license within 30 days of establishing residency to drive on Florida roads.
Special Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an outside environment and involves moving materials up to 50 lbs, exposures to chemicals and pesticides, excessive noise levels, fumes, grease & oil, dust, extreme heat and humidity, flying golf balls, and various machinery and equipment.
Extensive physical activity, strenuous physical work and heavy lifting.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, squat and kneel, for 8 hours or more daily.
Work schedule may include overtime, holidays and weekends.
Skills & Knowledge:
Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and schedule appropriate maintenance work.
Knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and equipment repair tools.
Knowledge and understanding of the latest technology in the care and operation of maintenance equipment.
5 years’ experience as an Assistant Equipment Technician and/or Head Mechanic preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot quality of cut issues, electrical, and hydraulic systems as needed.
Have basic understanding of the game of golf and the effects turf equipment have on course playability.
