Position Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the comprehensive management and maintenance of all golf course properties, including 27 holes of championship golf, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, open spaces, and all equipment used in their care. This is a key leadership role focused on delivering exceptional playing conditions and outstanding course presentation year-round in West Texas.
Working alongside a fellow Superintendent and under the direction of the Director of Golf, this position plays a vital role in achieving the club’s agronomic, aesthetic, and operational goals. Superintendents rotate weekend coverage (one on, one off) in alignment with the golf calendar.
Key Responsibilities
Provide overall agronomic leadership to ensure the highest standards of turf quality, course conditioning, and presentation.
Oversee all aspects of golf course and grounds maintenance for 27 holes, practice facilities, clubhouse landscaping, and surrounding property.
Develop and execute comprehensive agronomic programs, including fertilization, integrated pest management, irrigation scheduling, and cultural practices.
Manage, maintain, and optimize irrigation and drainage systems to promote healthy turf and water efficiency.
Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate maintenance staff to foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Coordinate and oversee capital improvement projects, renovations, and equipment maintenance in collaboration with ownership and leadership.
Prepare, administer, and manage the annual maintenance budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility while maintaining premium course conditions.
Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and pesticide application requirements.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with ownership, golf operations, and department heads to align course conditions with tournaments, events, and daily play expectations.

Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance operations, including at least three (3) years serving as an Assistant Superintendent.
Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field.
Strong agronomic expertise in cool-season turfgrass management, particularly within northern climate conditions.
Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Extensive experience with irrigation systems, including diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and water management strategies.
Ability to obtain a Texas Pesticide Applicator’s License within 90 days of hire.
Willingness and flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required in a year-round golf operation.
Experience managing and mitigating challenges associated with poor water quality is highly desirable.
Familiarity with reverse osmosis (RO) systems and water quality monitoring is preferred but not required.
Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

The course features 27 holes of golf designed by Charles Howard and is managed by the Golf Course Superintendent.
