Facility Overview
Our organization operates a multi course golf facility featuring several championship layouts, practice facilities, and clubhouse grounds that serve a large and active membership along with daily fee guests. The Head agronomist oversees and manages multiple Golf Course Superintendents and maintenance teams.
The facility places a strong emphasis on delivering excellent playing conditions, responsible water usage, and efficient operations. Utilizes modern agronomic practices, technology driven moisture management, and structured maintenance planning to maintain high standards across the entire property.
This position serves as the senior agronomic leader responsible for coordinating maintenance strategy, turf health, and operational consistency across all courses and grounds.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head Agronomist / Director of Agronomy to oversee the agronomic operations of our multi course golf facility.
This leadership role is responsible for the overall turfgrass management, maintenance standards, and agronomic strategy across multiple golf courses, practice facilities, and surrounding clubhouse grounds. The Director of Agronomy will oversee and support a team of individual course Superintendents who manage the daily operations at each course.
The position ensures exceptional playing conditions, strong turf health, environmental stewardship, and efficient maintenance operations while delivering a high quality golf experience for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight for multiple Golf Course Superintendents and their maintenance teams • Establish and enforce property wide maintenance standards and operating procedures • Develop and implement short term and long term agronomic strategies • Collaborate with management on annual operating budgets and long term capital planning • Utilize labor management software such as Task Tracker for planning, scheduling, and operational oversight • Maintain detailed records of fertilizer and pesticide applications, irrigation usage, weather tracking, and personnel activity • Oversee irrigation infrastructure including pumps, drainage systems, and irrigation scheduling • Utilize modern turf technology and moisture management tools to maintain optimal playing conditions • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to chemical handling, environmental protection, and workplace safety • Support and mentor individual Superintendents to ensure consistency and excellence across all courses • Stay current with industry best practices, research, and emerging technologies in turfgrass management
Qualifications
Education
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of golf course Superintendent or senior turf management experience • Proven leadership ability managing multiple teams or large maintenance operations • Strong knowledge of warm season turfgrass management • Experience with irrigation systems, pumps, drainage, and turf equipment management • Experience with agronomic planning and task management software • Ability to prepare and manage budgets and operational planning
