Canterbury Golf Club, located in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a 2nd Assistant Superintendent to join their golf course maintenance team. Golf Course Superintendent Mike LoPresti and his team prioritize professional development and growth within their staff. This position has become available following the promotion of the former Senior Assistant to a Head Superintendent role, as well as the advancement of the previous Second Assistant to Senior Assistant. Notably, the former Senior Assistant is the third individual in the past eight years to transition into a superintendent role, highlighting the team's commitment to fostering career progression.
Club highlights:
Staff: 20-25 during the peak of the season including 9 full-time year-round employees
Annual rounds: Approximately 20,000
Typical work schedule:
(In-Season) April-September: 12 days on 2 days off or 6 days on 1 day off
(Off-Season) October-March: M-F, with snow removal responsibilities every 3rd weekend
Grass Types: Bent/Poa on fine turf. Mix of bluegrass, tall fescue and rye in the rough
Equipment: Primarily purchased John Deere
Irrigation: 5 row Toro OSMAC controllers with Lynx Central
Future projects: On going projects associated with already approved master plan. In fall of 2025, there will be a focus on addressing creek banks, re-routing a creek, and replacing bridges

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, scheduling, and supervision of the staff
Assist in making plant protectant and fertilizer applications to all surfaces
Assist in making repairs to the irrigations system and all related components
Contribute to the daily maintenance of the golf course including and not limited to mowing, course set up, drainage maintenance, repair, and installation, hand watering, tree pruning and removal, snow plowing and removal, and other duties in the maintenance operation.
Manage the inventory of plant protection products and fertilizers
Have and continue to develop an attention to detail and use this skill to participate in weekly management meetings
Assist in the training of new employees in all aspects of golf course maintenance
Assist in scouting the course for disease and pests
Daily communication with the Superintendent, other management staff, and the rest of the crew on goals, course conditions, event planning, and other related activities
Preferred Requirements:
A degree in turf management or related field
1-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance
Strong verbal and written communication
