Hancock Park Golf Course is a unique 18-hole golf course located 60 miles northwest of Austin on Highway 183 in the Texas Hill Country. The course has beautiful native trees, and Sulphur creek winds through holes 11 of the 18 of the course. Measuring just 6,000 yards from the championship tees and par 72, the golf course is short but challenging. We are seeking a skilled
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Oversees daily operations of the golf course and pro shop, including supervising all golf course personnel.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to: City Manager.
2. Directs: Greenskeeper Supervisor, Greenskeepers, and Pro Shop Clerks.
3. Other: Has frequent contact with vendors, golf pros, other city departments, and the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
Supervises department personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, conducting performance reviews, recommending and executing personnel actions, scheduling work and leave time, and training employees;
Prepares and maintains department budget;
Promotes the golf course and pro shop;
Oversees daily operations of pro shop, including supervising employees, reviewing, totaling, and reconciling daily sales receipts, ordering merchandise and supplies, delivering daily sales deposits to City Hall, performing sales functions, and answering questions from customers;
Monitors golf course grounds and equipment; knowledge of operating ALL Golf Course equipment;
Assists in the maintenance of the golf course and equipment on a daily basis, including inspecting golf course, returning golf carts; knowledge of sprayer calibration;
Knowledge of all chemical mixtures and applications;
Orders parts for golf course equipment;
Knowledge of irrigation system, including pumps, pump house, and computer control systems;
Ability to identify pest and apply integrated pest management practices to resolve issues;
Keep complete and accurate records of chemical and fertilizer applications;
Organizes and conducts golf tournaments, including preparing tournament schedules, engaging participants, arranging for vendors; and overseeing tournament operations;
Answers phones and responds to customer comments and complaints;
Prepares and files various administrative reports;

Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: supervisory management; personnel practices and procedures; computers; standard office and bookkeeping practices and procedures; general golf course operations; game of golf; conducting tournaments; and golf course grounds and equipment.
Skill/Ability to: solve problems; write letters and instructions; take inventory; perform basic mathematical calculations; analyze data; reason, and interpret policies and procedures; delegate and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus five years of experience;
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Maintenance desired;
or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Valid Texas drivers’ license;
Pesticide applicator’s license (required);
Class A Member of GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America) preferred but not required.
