Under the direct supervision of the golf course superintendent, the technician/equipment manager assumes all responsibilities involving golf course maintenance equipment and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. The equipment manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. Preventative maintenance program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping of records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The equipment manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent and /or the assistant superintendent. Will actively participate in all golf course maintenance operations as directed by the superintendent; including but not limited to mowing, irrigation and pump station repairs, along with aerification, and topdressing practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Responsible for small engine repair; diesel engine diagnostics, and hydraulic system functionality and repair • Responsible for all mechanical stock, i.e., parts, nuts, bolts, oil, etc. • Works closely with in annual parts and repair budget. • Monitors and orders all fuel supplies. • Responsible for thorough record keeping. • Maintains all cutting units to the satisfaction of the Superintendent, including grinding, height of cut, and operation. • Attends educational conferences to maintain industry certifications. • Performs daily on course inspections for proper cut. • Assist with all training on use of equipment. • Supervises and train employees as needed. • Works independently and as a member of grounds team. • Additional duties and responsibilities as may be required or assigned.
Education and Experience: Must have two years of full -time or equivalent part-time experience in repair of machinery and power equipment in which diagnosing, repairing, and implementing a preventative maintenance program was a major duty At least 2 years working as a head golf course mechanic or as an assistant mechanic at a reputable golf club. Licenses & Certificate: High school diploma required. Graduation from a recognized trade or vocational school with a major in repair of machinery and power equipment desired. Thorough knowledge of gas and diesel motors, and turf equipment. Required skills: Must be able to perform mechanical maintenance and recognize equipment maintenance problems. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to read and write in English and keep records as may be required. Must be able to hear sufficiently to communicate with the public and other workers effectively and perform work tasks safely. Must have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, be highly motivated, detail orientated and a team player. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, via telephone and in person, a must.
