Job Summary: The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a key role in the maintenance and management of the golf course grounds. Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant is responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing maintenance activities, and ensuring the course is in optimal condition for golfers. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a passion for turf management. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Director of Golf, Assistant Golf Professionals and the General Manager to ensure that the course is maintained to the highest standards of playability, environmental sustainability, and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in managing daily operations of the golf course, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control.
Supervise the maintenance of tees, fairways, greens, roughs, and bunkers.
Help with the proper care and maintenance of all course turf, plants, and landscaping.
Monitor and assist in implementing a comprehensive turf management program.
Schedule, supervise, train, and mentor maintenance staff in all aspects of golf course maintenance and evaluate all personnel assigned to department.
Maintains accurate work records for all personnel in the department.
Supervises all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.
Assign daily tasks and ensure that they are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of course equipment.
Ensure that the equipment is in good working condition and that the staff follows proper maintenance protocols, is properly trained in the safe operation of the equipment and maintains the equipment.
Provide ongoing training on equipment use, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures.
Assist with the operation, maintenance and repair of the irrigation system. Oversees repairs of broken water lines or valves and may perform necessary repairs in an emergency.
Recognize and reward exceptional performance, while addressing underperformance promptly and constructively.

Lead by example in terms of work ethic, professionalism, and a commitment to service excellence.
Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees on course in compliance with local, state and federal laws; implements and manages the club’s hazard communication (HAZCOM) program.
Ensures that chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations; maintains required records and strives to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
Monitor soil moisture levels, adjust irrigation schedules, and conduct repairs as needed and spot irrigates when necessary.
Mixed chemicals and sprays as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent.
Assist with the identification and control of weeds, insects, and diseases.
Oversee all construction, maintenance and renovations on the golf course.
Maintain records of pesticide applications and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Assist in setting up the course for daily play, including hole locations and tee placement.
Monitor course conditions throughout the day to ensure playability and aesthetics are maintained.
Assist with maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, inventory, and other relevant reports.
Report on course conditions, staff performance, and other issues to the Golf Course Superintendent.
Ensure excellent customer service by maintaining a high standard of course conditions.
Assist in responding to customer inquiries and concerns related to course conditions and communicate these to the Golf Course Superintendent.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent as directed.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Associates degree or equivalent experience in turf management or golf course operations a plus.
2+ years of experience in golf course maintenance or turf management.
Experience with course equipment operation, maintenance, and repair is highly desirable.
Knowledge of irrigation systems, pest control, and fertilization practices.
Skills:
Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in varied weather conditions and long hours when necessary.
Strong work ethic, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Licenses and Special Requirements:
Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe) is a plus.
CPR and First Aid certification is desirable.
Valid driver’s license
Physical Demands:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
Ability to operate and maintain golf course machinery and equipment.
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
