Lakeland Golf Club is seeking a driven, hands?on Assistant Golf Course Superintendent who is ready to make a real impact. Our George Cobb–designed course has been a fixture in the Mid?South for more than 50 years, and we are committed to restoring it to the level of conditioning and playability it deserves. This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly, take ownership, and become a strong superintendent candidate within the next few years.

About the Opportunity

The course needs focused attention, fresh energy, and someone who takes pride in elevating turf quality. You will work directly with the Golf Pro and ownership to bring the course back to its former glory—improving playing conditions, implementing agronomic plans, and helping lead a team that cares about doing things the right way.

This role is ideal for someone who wants responsibility, visibility, and a clear path to advancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in all daily golf course maintenance operations
• Lead and train staff in mowing, bunker care, cultural practices, and course setup
• Support irrigation system maintenance, troubleshooting, and scheduling
• Help execute agronomic programs including fertilization, chemical applications, and turf health monitoring
• Maintain equipment standards and ensure safe working practices
• Contribute ideas, identify opportunities for improvement, and take initiative in course recovery projects

• 1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience
• Turfgrass, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related degree preferred (experience may substitute)
• Ability to obtain or currently hold a state pesticide applicator license
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems and basic troubleshooting
• Experience with mowing equipment and cultural practices
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead small teams
• Reliable, self?motivated, and willing to work early mornings and weekends
• Passion for turf quality, course presentation, and continuous learning

Preferred Skills

• GCSAA membership or interest in pursuing it
• Experience with renovation or course recovery projects
• Basic mechanical aptitude
• Comfort with turf technology (moisture meters, GPS sprayers, etc.)
