THE GOLF PROGRAM
The City of Madison Golf Enterprise Program includes
Odana Hills, Yahara Hills and Monona golf courses and the
newly renovated The Glen Golf Park, for a current system
total of 72 holes. The Golf team consists of 10 full-time
employees and approximately 100 hourly staff involved
in golf course operations, in addition to a dedicated
construction team of four limited-term employees. As
an Enterprise, the Golf Program is expected to cover all
expenses with revenue generated. The Golf Program will
end the 2023 season with the fourth consecutive year of
record breaking revenue and course utilization in history,
with a four year average of approximately $4 million of
annual revenue and between 135,000-140,000 rounds
played each year.
In addition to seeing an increased interest in the game of
golf nation-wide, it is an exciting time of transformation
and transition for the City of Madison’s Golf Program.
The Glen Golf Park was completely redesigned and
reconstructed in partnership with the Madison Parks
Foundation through a generous gift from Michael and
Jocelyn Keiser, and The Glen House was renovated
through grassroots efforts ...lead by Supreme Structures.
The Glen reopened in July 2022 with a fresh feel
and approach to the game of golf and an innovative
mixed use programming plan that creates a variety of
opportunities for the community to engage with the golf
park. The Golf Program continues to work towards further
implementation of recommendations provided in the Task
Force on Municipal Golf’s Final Report, which generally
recognizes the important role that the Golf Program plays
in providing quality affordable municipal golf in the right
quantity, reimagining the mission statement for the Golf
Program, as well as investing in the courses in financially
and environmentally sustainable ways with a focus on
equity and inclusion. Planning efforts are underway to
reconfigure Yahara Hills Golf Course from 36 holes with
significant capital needs to 18 quality holes. The Yahara
project provides much needed resources to reinvest in the
capital needs of the entire program. The Golf Program will
transition from 72 holes to 54 holes by the beginning of
the 2026 season. This is all just the beginning of a bright
new future!
