 Job Summary 
 
 The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for executing the Superintendent&#8217;s job duties in the superintendent&#39;s absence. The Superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance,&#xa0;operation, and management of the golf course. This position serves as a liaison between the company,&#xa0;the customer representative, and the golf shop on matters related to daily course operations. The Superintendent is easily&#xa0;contacted and also remains in contact with key employees on the golf course at all times. The Assistant Superintendent must be able to respond quickly to any situation. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
 Assist the Superintendent in the organization and direct maintenance of all areas within the scope and according to the technical specifications of the contract 
 Supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment assigned to the course 
 Procure and manage supplies and materials to support maintenance activities 
 Manage golf course maintenance employees 
 Provide valuable input on the interview, hiring, training, discipline, and separation process 
 Protect the company&#8217;s interest through an awareness of and compliance with all applicable regulations, including course and company policies 
 Administer all aspects of the BrightView Safety Program and the BV360 Management program 
 Represent BrightView Golf Maintenance positively and professionally, including attitude, appearance, and public relations 
 Meet or exceed external and internal customer expectations 
 
 
 Education and Experience: 
 
 Experience in golf course management and turf culture preferred 
 An awareness of the construction, establishment, and maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers 
 A degree or advanced knowledge of agronomy, horticulture, plant, or soil science is preferred 
 Aptitude for administrative and executive responsibilities, including effective oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency 
 Must obtain and maintain a state-sanctioned pesticide applicator license within 6 months of entry into this job 
 Familiar with the characteristics and proper use of fertilizers and soil conditioners 
 Knowledge of irrigation, including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells, and automatic controls and drainage 
 Able to prepare the course for play in accordance with the rules of golf 
 Evaluate the course from the player&#39;s perspective 
 
 &#xa0; 
 Physical Demands/Requirements: 
 
 Constant operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, photocopier, and computer printer 
 Ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of walking, standing, and kneeling

 Work in an indoor office and also outdoors during site walkthroughs and site supervision duties

 Necessary commitment to work varied and flexible hours including days, nights, weekends and all Holidays and scheduled Golf Club events, as may be needed. 
 Will work under supervision of Golf Course Superintendent to be accountable for Golf Maintenance Budget. 
 Assists in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department. 
 Monitors operation of the golf maintenance department, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety and equipment maintenance. 
 Supervise the maintenance of the golf courses. 
 Oversee completion of work assignments by staff and assists with field decisions, and decisions and engages with all levels of staff to perform actual labor when and as needed. 
 Gets out onto the golf course and performs actual labor when and as needed to demonstrate, assist, and get the job / task completed timely. 
 Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods. 
 Supervises special projects and labor crews per direction of Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations. 
 Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations as the case may be. 
 Assists in the staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department. 
 Communicates verbally or through email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments. 
 Coordinates issues and concerns and maintenance matters for equipment and tools to the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager. 
 Be aware of, and enforce, company policies and procedures. 
 Knowledge of computer programs: JONAS, EZLINK, KRONOS, Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook would be a plus.

 Essential Job Functions: 
 
 Effectively lead, develop, train, oversee, manage, coach, motivate, and assist the golf course team.

 Experience, Skills, Abilities, Knowledge, and Education: 
 
 Must be coachable and willing to learn the current operational, agronomic, and personnel systems at John&#8217;s Island Club, while providing input from their own past experiences. 
 Have a BS or Associate&#8217;s Degree in turf grass management, or related certificate and experience. 
 Leadership experience at a golf course with a proven record of having exceptional course conditions. 
 Be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
 Familiarity with budgeting. 
 Understanding of pest control products, turf chemicals, and fertilizer products, and their applications. 
 Knowledge in irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance. 
 Experience with course renovations and major projects. 
 Possess strong listening skills, while being open-minded to new perspectives and ideas. 
 Possess an understanding of the game of golf and what it is expected from the players with regard to course conditions and playability of the course. 
 Have a valid driver&#8217;s license with a clean driving record. 
 Have a current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator, or the ability to acquire a license. 
 Have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language, and effectively communicate and direct individuals with limited or no English.

 The Golf Course Equipment Technician, along with the Equipment Manager, will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of golf course and landscape equipment, such as specialized mowers, aeration tools, sprayers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and utility vehicles.  Essential Duties: 
 
 Follow preventive maintenance schedules, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks, following the manufacturer&#39;s specifications and maintenance schedules.

 Maintain an inventory of spare parts, consumables, and supplies required for equipment maintenance and repair activities, ensuring adequate stock levels to support ongoing operations.

 Proven experience as a mechanic, with hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing equipment.

The club was originally founded in 1956 by Carlton Blunt and was originally designed by Robert Bruce Harris. In 1986 another major renovation was completed by Arthur Hills. Then in 2006, Lester George conducted our most recent renovation. In the summer of 2023, we just completed our most recent &#8220;restoration&#8221; where we completed the following: the resurfacing of all greens, fraze mowing all fairways, adding Better Billy Bunkers, updating the irrigation system with Toro Infinity Sprinklers, redesigning the clubhouse parking lot, and a complete renovation of the driving range and practice area. In 2012 a brand-new environmental building was installed which includes an above ground gas and diesel tank, Carbtrol Washdown System, chemical mixing and loading area, and equipment storage. We are also currently in the process of building a brand-new, state of the art maintenance facility which a 3 phase project with phase 1 set to be completed in June.

 Position Overview  
 The Assistant Superintendent will be involved in the day to day operation of the golf course and clubhouse landscaping. This includes managing and working alongside a staff of +/- 15 crew members, spraying chemicals/ fertilizer, spreading fertilizer, hand watering, irrigation repair and regular maintenance, diagnosing irrigation issues, operating mowers, tractors, and many other pieces of equipment. Also responsible for overseeing landscaping throughout the course, and clubhouse areas. &#xa0;Candidates must be willing to work alongside the director of agronomy and golf course superintendent in coordinating day to day tasks and implement the agronomic program. Candidates must be detail oriented to continue to provide a high quality golf course for the membership. The candidate should be able to operate a digital workboard, run irrigation through the Toro Lynx irrigation program, use moisture management tools, gps technology, and the willingness and ability to learn new things. Proper record keeping of irrigation flow totals and chemical and fertilizer applications is a must as well.
