Belleair Country Club is one of the best Clubs in Central Florida and has a rich history as the Oldest Golf Course in Florida.  It began with six holes in 1897, built alongside Henry Plant’s Belleview Hotel.  It was expanded to 36 holes in 1915 by Donald Ross.  In 2022 Fry Straka Global Golf Course Design, masterfully restored the West Course, elevating it to the 4^th Best Private Course in Florida and inside the top 100 Classic Courses in the US.  The East course and practice facility is slated to undergo a major renovation in 2026.

We are looking for a Golf Course Superintendent to help us achieve our goals of maintaining the golf courses and landscape in a fashion to continuously exceed our members’ expectations.  They will be responsible for managing daily activity on the courses and landscape areas to achieve these goals.  Although the primary focus will be on the West course, they will have to work closely with the East Course Golf Course Superintendent. We maintain all 36 holes, practice facilities, croquet courts and landscape crews as one unit.  This position answers to the Director of Facilities and Operations.

Skills Required:

• Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
• Outstanding attention to detail.
• Must have a full understanding and be able to perform all golf course maintenance tasks.
• Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions quickly.

Education/Experience/Certification Preferences:

• Two/Four-Year Turf Degree preferred.
• 3 years’ experience in a golf course superintendent position.
• Must possess or ability to obtain within 90 days:
  • Florida Driver’s license.
  • Florida Restricted Use Pesticide License.
  • Florida Golf BMP Certification.
  • Florida GIBMP Certification.
• Multi-course facility experience
• High-end private club experience
• Golf Course Construction or Grow-in experience

About Belleair Country Club

Florida’s First Golf Course – Established in 1897 How It All Began The grand tradition of Belleair Country Club golf began over a hundred years ago when Henry Bradley Plant, founder of the Plant system of railroads and Steamboats selected this site to construct a winter golf resort in 1897. He had six holes built with elevated greens, the surfaces of which were crushed seashells. At that time, the fairways were rough with indigenous grass, as it was assumed that sophisticated grasses could not be grown in Florida. By 1899, under the guidance of Joseph J. Eldridge, the layout had expanded to nine holes and the greens had been “upgraded” to sand surfaces. On June 23, 1899, Henry Plant died, leaving his son, Morton F. Plant, to complete the dream he had started. Morton Plant succeeded in completing his father’s dream, and more. Morton began experimenting with topsoil, grasses, and fertilizers, refusing to accept the notion that better golf course grasses could not be grown successfully in Florida. He went so far as to have several railroad cars full of rich Indiana topsoil brought to Belleair. Morton Plant laid the foundation for the rich and lush appearance of the Belleair Co...untry Club’s golf courses as they are today. In fact, it has been observed that the Club’s grass greens were the first in the South. During 1909, the West Golf Course grew to eighteen holes and by 1915, to thirty-six holes, implementing the design of the popular and brilliant golf course architect, Donald J. Ross. Today’s layouts are essentially as Ross designed them, although the sequence of holes has changed.
