The Turf Superintendent for Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks will support multiple departments in overseeing the maintenance and enhancement of golf course, athletic fields, and park grounds. Key responsibilities include:
Oversee daily maintenance and turf care operations for a 9-hole executive golf course and athletic fields.
Develop and implement turfgrass management plans, including mowing, aeration, fertilization, and overseeding.
Apply pesticides and fertilizers in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Manage irrigation and drainage systems, performing maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
Coordinate the preparation with Athletics Department of athletic fields for various sports and events.
Supervise and schedule part-time staff and volunteers.
Maintain and operate turf maintenance equipment; coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
Work collectively with Golf Professional, Athletics Director, and Maintenance Supervisor to schedule and plan for proper timing and operation of turf maintenance.
Assist with budgeting, inventory management, and ordering of supplies and materials.
Communicate effectively with park management, athletic organizations, and the public.
High school diploma or equivalent. Associates or bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
3+ years' experience in golf course maintenance, athletic field maintenance, or turfgrass management.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
Pesticide applicator license for turf and ornamental applications or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Membership or eligibility for membership in GCSAA or similar turf-related professional organization.
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management and maintenance practices.
Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment.
Supervisory experience, especially managing part-time and volunteer staff.
Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
Effective communication and supervisory abilities.
