Position summary:
The Head Mechanic will be responsible for supervising, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards. He/she will direct and participate in the care of maintenance equipment for the golf course tees, greens, fairways, etc. The Head Mechanic is heavily involved in planning, organizing, directing, or coordinating activities of assistant mechanics. Work may involve reviewing and preparing estimates according to labor, material, and machine costs.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Assist in establishing and enforcing operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
Preventative maintenance and repair of all golf course and grounds equipment.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in diesel, electric and gasoline powered utility vehicles, mowers, all small and heavy equipment
Perform regular maintenance checks such oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
Maintain accurate and thorough records of all repairs and maintenance of equipment.
Purchasing of all parts and materials necessary to properly maintain all maintenance equipment.
Maintain adequate parts inventory.
Ability to work proactively relative to equipment maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime and loss of staff productivity.
Maintain detailed records for equipment and parts equipment condition, repair costs and preventive maintenance of all equipment.
Proficient in diagnosing and repairing Tier 4 engines.
Maintains inventory of shelf stock of repair parts, nuts and bolts, belts, hoses, etc.
Adjust mowers correctly according to accurate standard operating procedures.
Welding, engine rebuilding, ability to read hydraulic and wiring schematics.
Use diagnostic tools and specialized equipment to identify problems and troubleshoot solutions.
Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe work area.
Stay updated on the latest industry trends, repair techniques, and safety standards.
Assist Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent in any way needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience-
High school diploma or GED certificate, some previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required. Two to four-year educational certificate or degree preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license. 3-5 years ofexperience in the turfrgrass maintenance industry preferred. Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens from a mechanical maintenance perspective.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Able to interact successfully with a variety of people in person with attention to comprehending information. Excellent oral communication skills as well as understanding written communication in work related documents. Time management and independent thinking skills are a must. Must be confident of skills and have the ability to make sound, independent decisions when appropriate; have the willingness to adjust to and conform to varying schedules; have excellent communication skills; and be able to get along well with others.
