Overview: Claremont Country Club is a welcoming and unique property located in the Oakland Hills, rich in tradition. Claremont is a member-owned family club, most of whom live close by and utilize the facilities often. The membership is truly a wonderful and supportive group to their staff.
The Club was founded in 1897 as the Oakland Golf Club down by Lake Merritt and moved up the hill to its current home in 1903 as a nine-hole course designed by George Smith. Within a few years it became an 18-hole course and by the late 1920’s was re-routed and changed significantly by Alister MacKenzie. The golf course was restored by architects Tom Doak and Jim Urbina in phases that began in 2002, using primarily early 1930’s aerial and ground imagery. Last year, the Club completed a $6M+ refresh with the installation of a Brent Harvey designed irrigation system with Rainbird Cirrus Pro, and pump station. Urbina, who has remained our consulting architect since the restoration, led a bunker refresh and tee enhancement project at the same time.
Claremont is placed in a location with a comfortable working climate year-round. Summers feature dry conditions with cool mornings and warm, bay influenced afternoons in the low 70’s. Winter provides nearly all of the Club’s annual rainfall but offer many nice, mild stretches in between. We are situated in a central Bay Area location near urban environments and the University of California’s flagship Berkeley Campus, as well as quick highway access to suburban communities.
