The Golf Manager oversees all golf shop and outside service operations and is responsible for ensuring that all guests receive outstanding member and guest service, which meets or exceeds their expectations. This position is instrumental in developing and/or implementing strategies, golf events and golf programs designed to improve the courses products and services as well as its competitive position in the marketplace. Additionally, they are accountable for achieving budgeted financial goals specifically for Edgewood and El Zagal golf courses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
Pro Shop
Operate and maintain a reputable golf shop and practice range staffed with competent personnel and featuring top quality merchandise and services.
Be fully knowledgeable of golf shop retail management. Responsible for ordering, pricing, displaying and selling merchandise. Train staff on the importance of keeping a well-stocked and presentable golf shop. Provide suggestions to patrons as appropriate to meet their needs.
Design and implement sales incentive programs for golf shop staff. Monitor results and recommend modifications to achieve budgeted retail sales goals.
Course Operations
Course Play - Maintain standards and enforce all Park District rules and regulations governing safety, speed of play, use of golf course, golf carts and other golf facilities including driving range.
Work with golf associations and other groups to schedule tournaments and group outings.
Operations and Maintenance
Maintain the pro shop and clubhouse and coordinate with the Golf Course Superintendent regarding turf and course management.
Outside Services
Manage practice facilities and golf cart operations to offer customer service effectively and efficiently to meet standards.
People Management
Supervise, provide leadership, and give directions to staff to achieve objectives, follow policies, and provide exceptional customer service.
Finance
Assist in the preparation and implementation of operating and capital budgets. Provide assistance with financial forecasts and analyzing budget variances.
Accurately operate point of sale system, verify the accuracy of prices of state and federal taxes and other charges on all sales tickets. Collect green fees and cart fees.
Handle cash flow in the golf shop, ensuring that cash and credit card charges balance with sales receipts in accordance with operating procedures.
Technology
Acquire and facilitate a working knowledge of "back of the house" operations for POS Fore UP system to insure proper function and integration of these systems.
Supervise computerized golf handicap system whenever necessary.
Player Development
Provide appropriate and competent golf instruction for all levels of golfers.
Marketing
Ability to promote the golf programs, especially in developing tournament events for the community, area business, civic and charity groups through traditional and digital media.

REQUIREMENTS:
Able to work on average 50+ hours per week during the golf season and 30 hours per week during the off-season.

Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience at a municipal or private course. Ability to effectively monitor and develop staff.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma is required and a 4- year college degree is preferred.
Must have a minimum of 2 years of management experience preferably in the golf or hospitality industry.
Demonstrated experience and capability in the areas of fiscal management and staff management. Retailing, marketing, and/or sales and customer service, guest relations experience preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Golf software system(s), ForeUP experience is preferred

Meeting both in small committees and monthly as an entire board, they discuss current issues facing the district and establish district policies. The day to day operations are managed by the Executive Director of Parks and Recreation. The district itself is divided into the Finance, Enterprise, Events, Operations, Programming and Facilities, Human Resources, Valley Senior Services and Courts Plus Community Fitness.
