 Overview 
 The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent&#39;s supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course areas, including but not limited to, tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent&#39;s capacity during his/her absence. 
 Functions 
 
 Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment. 
 Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. 
 Strongly motivated to align and partner with superintendent to complete all tasks to the highest standards and achieve team goals. 
 Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline. 
 May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation. 
 Employment standards 
 
 Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. 
 Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications as specified by supervisor. 
 Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations. 
 Possession of a valid driver&#39;s license. 
 Requires ability to obtain current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator. 
 Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

The golf course and equipment fleet are vital assets to Omaha Country Club and therefore are of great responsibility to the Equipment Manager.&#xa0;&#xa0; 
 The Equipment Manager manages the staff working in the Equipment Shop in and around the maintenance facility as it pertains to the equipment fleet. The Equipment Manager will report to the Director of Greens and Grounds and/or the Lead Assistant Superintendent.&#xa0; 
 POSITION OVERVIEW 
 This key position is responsible for managing and maintaining an equipment fleet valued at over $1.5 million while ensuring the golf course and club grounds remain in peak condition. The Equipment Manager will implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program, oversee shop operations, and support facility maintenance needs. 
 The Equipment Manager will also assist in maintaining and repairing Grounds Maintenance Center buildings and related equipment, including the greenhouse, fuel storage tanks, and wash station. Additionally, they may oversee or perform maintenance on the golf course and club grounds as needed. Clear communication with the Director of Green and Grounds regarding equipment maintenance or repair needs is essential. Safety remains a top priority, with responsibility for maintaining a clean and organized service area and maintenance facility. 
 CLUB HIGHLIGHTS 
 
 Staff: In Season &#8211; 20-25 / Winter Season &#8211; 10 
 Equipment: Main equipment fleet-leased through Toro. Own John Deere tractors and a range of other equipment. 
 Irrigation system: Toro Lynx 
 Types of grass: Bentgrass on greens, tees, and fairways/RTF rough/Native grass areas.&#xa0; 
 Rounds Per Year: 25,000 rounds&#xa0;

 Initial Priorities of Position: 
 
 Establish a preventive maintenance program to ensure equipment longevity and performance. 
 Assess and organize shop layout for maximum efficiency. 
 Train and educate staff on proper equipment operation and maintenance procedures. 
 Conduct equipment inspections to evaluate repair and replacement needs. 
 
 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, SKILLS, APTITUDE, AND KNOWLEDGE Equipment &#38; Shop Management: 
 
 Implement and oversee a comprehensive maintenance program for all golf course equipment. 
 Diagnose and repair diesel, gas, and electric-powered vehicles and turf maintenance equipment. 
 Maintain detailed service records for parts, repairs, and labor. 
 Conduct reel grinding, blade sharpening, and equipment adjustments to ensure peak performance. 
 Spot check equipment on the course to ensure optimal height of cut and operational efficiency. 
 Manage fuel logs and adhere to Nebraska underground storage tank regulations. 
 
 Team Leadership &#38; Training: 
 
 Supervise and train staff on equipment operation, care, and safety procedures 
 Conduct equipment safety training for all maintenance staff. 
 Monitor and enforce proper use and handling of golf course equipment 
 
 Facility &#38; Grounds Support: 
 
 Maintain and oversee repairs to the Grounds Maintenance Center buildings and infrastructure. 
 Assist in managing club grounds and course maintenance when needed. 
 Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, SDS requirements, and workplace safety standards. 
 
 Administrative &#38; Budgeting: 
 
 Assist in budget planning and cost tracking for equipment maintenance and capital improvements. 
 Coordinate purchase orders for parts and supplies while adhering to budget guidelines. 
 Collaborate with the Director of Green and Grounds to optimize spending and resource allocation. 
 
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
 
 3+ years of turf equipment maintenance experience. 
 High school diploma or equivalent (Trade school or mechanical certifications preferred). 
 Knowledge of Toro or other major turf equipment brands. 
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for record-keeping. 
 Pesticide Applicator Certification (Ornamental &#38; Turf) &#8211; Nebraska Department of Agriculture. 
 UST Class A/B Certification for underground storage tank operations. 
 Valid driver&#8217;s license with a clean record. 
 Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions. 
 Welding experience and ability to use torches for cutting and repairs. 
 Understanding of golf course operations and how equipment performance impacts playability. 
 Experience supervising and training staff.

 QUALIFICATIONS: 
 Education and Experience:

 Monitor and assist in implementing a comprehensive turf management program. 
 Schedule, supervise, train, and mentor maintenance staff in all aspects of golf course maintenance and evaluate all personnel assigned to department.

 Supervises all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.

 Qualifications: 
 Education and Experience 
 
 Associates degree or equivalent experience in turf management or golf course operations a plus.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
 Collaborate with the Superintendent of Golf Grounds in planning, scheduling, and supervising the maintenance of the golf course to industry standards. 
 Coordinate and provide support of daily golf course presentation including mowing of turf areas, raking of bunkers, course set up, and other related tasks as needed to provide patrons with quality course conditions. 
 Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation and drainage systems. 
 Inspect golf facilities and property for safety and cleanliness. Evaluate, determine, and prioritize necessary repairs and maintenance. 
 Operate and maintain equipment. Clean and organize work and storage areas. 
 Perform administrative duties including inventory, budget, reporting, and daily record keeping. 
 Apply pesticides for control of weeds, insects, and fungal disease problems as needed. 
 Manage work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Assists with the hiring, disciplining, training, developing, and reviewing performance for part time staff. 
 
 Other Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
 Under the supervision of the Vehicle &#38; Equipment Technician, perform minor maintenance and repair of golf equipment and carts. 
 Assist in the general maintenance and/or repairs of golf course equipment as assigned by the Director of Golf. 
 Other duties as assigned. 
 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
 
 Working knowledge of generally accepted maintenance practices for golf course playing surfaces. This includes the planting, cultivation, pruning, and general care of a variety of plant materials, the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, plant protectants, herbicides, and other pest control methods and materials, and drainage control methods for irrigation systems such as wells, pumps, and automated controls. 
 Basic understanding of the game of golf and how it relates to the set up and playing conditions of the golf course. 
 Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance activities to achieve the most efficient and effective utilization of labor and equipment. 
 Ability to maintain effective employee and public relations. 
 Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to tractors, trucks, and mowing equipment. 
 Basic understanding and ability to use Microsoft platform. 
 Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. 
 
 Education and Experience: 
 
 Certificate or Associate&#39;s degree in Turf Management or related field. 
 Minimum one (1) year of experience in turf and/or green industry related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
 Valid driver&#39;s license. 
 Possession, or the ability to obtain, State of Illinois pesticide operator or applicators license within six (6) months of hire. 
 
 Special Considerations: 
 
 Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions. 
 Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, exhaust fumes, dirt, noise, insect bites, and loud noises. 
 Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 50 lbs on a weekly basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting&#xa0;&gt;&#xa0;50 lbs.
