At the end of the internship, you will be given the opportunity to fill the role as Senior Assistant Superintendent for three consecutive days. You will feel the weight and responsibility of the role as you will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and be responsible for all scheduling, direction and management of the entire crew. Course Construction "Scheff's Kitchen"
This summer presents an outstanding opportunity to experience a complete renovation of the Driving Range here at UTGC. With the coordination and support of The University of Texas Athletic Association, The University of Texas Golf Teams, UTGC partners, and the generous donation from the PGA Tour World #1 and UT Golf Alumni, Scottie Scheffler and his wife Meredith, we are excited for the renovation of what will be called “Scheff’s Kitchen.” This will be a brand new, completely redesigned state-of-the-art 10-acre driving range facility without compromise. The project will take three months to complete, June-August, and will make for a fantastic learning opportunity. Expect to be exposed to shaping/grading, drainage and irrigation installation, sand-capping, sod installation, grow-in fertilization, up to grand re-opening.
Along with the construction exposure, the major emphasis will be building agronomic prowess. The beginning of the internship will focus on championship conditioning and exceptional playability for members and their invited guests through the July 4th weekend. The following two weeks the club is closed for summer aerification. This will feel like you are drinking through a firehose. We will provide an all encompassing learning opportunity with cultural practices touching every inch of the property. Following aerification, you will learn how to grow in from those practices and return the golf course to championship playing conditions in time for the busy fall golfing season. Expect to be exposed to all of the following during your internship:
Currently enrolled in a 2 year, 4 year, or certificate program in Turfgrass Management.
Experience preferred but not required. This internship will be tailored to individual needs and will be designed to push your learning experience where you are currently.
Willingness to learn and absorb information and receive critiques to better your knowledge and skillset.
Ability to thrive in a fast paced, team atmosphere.
