In 2023, the golf course underwent a full reconstruction, integrating cutting-edge technology and modern design principles to redefine turf management practices. The course features bentgrass putting greens and zoysia grass on fairways, approaches, and tees. This state-of-the-art environment provides interns with exceptional exposure to premium turfgrass varieties, advanced agronomic systems, and innovative maintenance strategies at the highest level of the profession.
Internship Overview
Vaquero Club is seeking motivated, detail-oriented students or recent graduates with a strong interest in turfgrass management and golf course maintenance for the 2026 Turf Management Internship Program. Interns will work alongside an experienced agronomy team to maintain championship-level playing conditions while gaining hands-on experience with modern equipment, technology, and best management practices.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful, real-world experience in a high-performance, private club setting and to prepare candidates for long-term careers in golf course management.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with daily golf course maintenance operations, including mowing, trimming, rolling, and course setup
Participate in irrigation management, including system operation, moisture monitoring, troubleshooting, and basic repairs
Learn and apply advanced turfgrass cultural practices such as aeration, topdressing, and cultivation programs
Gain hands-on experience managing bentgrass and zoysia turf, including disease identification, nutrient applications, and stress management
Support special agronomic and environmental projects, including data collection, weather monitoring, and course presentation initiatives
Safely operate, clean, and maintain specialized turf equipment under the supervision of the agronomy team
Assist with tournament preparation and execution as scheduled

Qualifications
Current student or recent graduate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field

Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required
Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions
