Position Overview
Brentwood Country Club is seeking a highly skilled and organized Equipment & Shop Manager to oversee all aspects of our turf maintenance fleet and shop operations. This position plays a critical leadership role in supporting championship-level playing conditions through equipment reliability, professional shop management, safety compliance, and strong teamwork with the agronomy staff.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional with advanced mechanical expertise, strong leadership ability, and a commitment to high standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Fleet Reliability
Manage the repair, servicing, and preventive maintenance program for all mowing equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
Perform and oversee reel/bedknife grinding, height-of-cut calibration, and daily mower setup to support consistent and elite turf conditions.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and battery-powered systems.
Maintain accurate equipment records, PM schedules, and work orders using maintenance software.
Provide input on long-term capital planning, fleet replacement cycles, and equipment purchases.
Shop Management & Operations
Direct all daily shop operations, ensuring equipment is staged and ready for use each morning.
Maintain a clean, safe, efficient, and well-organized maintenance facility.
Manage parts inventory, tools, equipment, warranties, and vendor relationships.
Prioritize repairs based on agronomy needs and ensure timely turnaround of equipment.
Establish and enforce shop standards, procedures, and quality control checks.
Safety, Compliance & Environmental Stewardship
Ensure full compliance with OSHA/CAL-OSHA regulations, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and SDS management.
Oversee the safe storage, handling, and recycling of oils, fuels, batteries, and other materials.
Maintain wash pad systems, fueling stations, and environmental controls.
Support club sustainability goals through efficient fuel use, recycling programs, and adoption of modern, low-emission equipment.
Leadership & Communication
Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate mechanics and shop staff.
Collaborate daily with the Superintendent and Assistants to align equipment output with course conditioning goals.
Communicate repair timelines, equipment status, and shop priorities clearly and proactively.
Support major events and tournament preparations with elevated equipment standards and responsiveness.
Qualifications
Required:
3+ years of experience with turf equipment or heavy equipment maintenance.
Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, gasoline/diesel, and reel-grinding systems.
Experience managing a shop environment, workflow, tools, and parts inventory.
Understanding of OSHA/CAL-OSHA safety standards.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred:
Technical/trade school degree or certifications in mechanical technology, diesel repair, or turf equipment.
Experience with Toro, John Deere, or Jacobsen equipment.
Welding and fabrication skills.
Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Familiarity with CMMS or digital maintenance systems.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in shop and outdoor conditions.
Frequent standing, kneeling, bending, and working under equipment.
Ability to work early mornings, occasional weekends, and extended hours during events.

Competitive salary 140k-150k

Educational Requirements
Preferred:
· Technical/trade school degree or certifications in mechanical technology, diesel repair, or turf equipment.
