Halbert National is a privately owned, Tom Fazio–designed championship course set on 170 scenic acres near Lake Granbury. The course lies just minutes from the historic town of Granbury, Texas—known for its charming courthouse square, lakeside views, and welcoming small-town atmosphere southwest of Fort Worth.
The position of Head Mechanic at Halbert National is a unique opportunity to manage a fleet and maintenance facility at a high-end exclusive golf course, providing the selected candidate with all the resources to be effective and successful. Our fleet consists primarily of newly purchased Toro golf equipment, John Deere utility vehicles, and various other golf course equipment. The Head Mechanic will also have the support of the Course Mechanics, whom he/she will direct and supervise to accomplish department goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in a variety of golf course maintenance equipment, including diesel, electric, and gasoline-powered vehicles and machinery.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all equipment.
Schedule, assign, and direct mechanics and maintenance staff to meet daily departmental goals.
Ensure all in-service equipment is operational, safe, and compliant for daily use.
Repair, adjust, and calibrate cutting mechanisms on all types of mowing equipment.
Prioritize repair and maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and optimize operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of equipment repairs, maintenance schedules, and service histories.
Conduct on-course performance checks and make prompt adjustments or repairs as needed.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment at all times.
Adhere to OSHA safety standards and ensure staff compliance with all safety protocols.
Manage workshop compliance with all applicable regulatory and environmental requirements.
Minimum of 7–10 years of head mechanic experience working with gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered equipment, utilizing standard mechanical repair tools.
Positive, team-oriented attitude with a commitment to achieving departmental goals.
Demonstrated ownership and pride in the management, maintenance, and care of the equipment fleet.
Proven organizational skills and ability to maintain efficiency throughout the maintenance operation.
Working knowledge of proper servicing, repair, and adjustment techniques for golf course maintenance equipment, including power mowing units.
Skilled in the use of a wide range of tools and equipment required for mechanical repair and maintenance.
Strong ability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
Experience with spin grinding reels and back-lapping bedknives required.
Comprehensive understanding of the theory, operation, and maintenance of internal combustion engines and turf maintenance equipment.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in basic computer applications, including email and internet-based functions.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects as required.
