The Golf Course Equipment Technician is a key support role within the golf course
maintenance team, reporting directly to the Equipment Manager. This position
assists in maintaining and repairing all golf course maintenance equipment and is designed as a
training role for individuals seeking to advance to a Head Golf Course Equipment
Technician position. The ideal candidate has foundational mechanical skills, a willingness to learn,
and the ability to contribute to the daily readiness and safety of all course machinery.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Entry-level to 2 years of mechanical experience preferred (automotive, small engine, or turf
equipment).
Familiar with most brands of golf course maintenance equipment
Interest in developing technical and diagnostic skills with turf equipment and vehicles.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems (gas, diesel, hydraulic, electrical).
Willingness to work outdoors and perform physical labor in a shop or field environment.
Valid driver’s license.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and desire to learn from senior technicians.
Basic computer skills for equipment tracking and maintenance logs.
Follows all safety procedures related to shop work, lifting, equipment use, and hazardous
materials.
Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, and
hearing protection.
Maintains a clean and hazard-free work environment.
Participates in safety briefings and mechanical training programs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on golf course maintenance
equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered engines.
Supports daily inspections and adjustments to ensure all mowing equipment delivers high-quality
turf cuts.
Helps with sharpening and grinding of reels, bed knives, and rotary blades.
Maintains cleanliness and organization of the maintenance shop and tools.
Tracks work completed and supports accurate service recordkeeping.
Performs assigned equipment repairs under supervision and learns to independently manage
smaller repair tasks.
Assists with emergency on-course repairs and inspections.
Communicates any mechanical or safety concerns to the Head Technician immediately
Fuels, oils, and inspects mowing and utility equipment before daily use.
Cleans and performs basic service tasks (e.g., filter changes, belt checks, greasing points).
Learns to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on turf equipment.
Assists with golf cart maintenance and repair.
Helps maintain records of parts inventory and tool conditions.
Supports major service intervals and equipment overhauls.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Walking, driving, lifting 50 lbs., and performing repetitive motion.
Outdoors in all weather conditions.
Standing, lifting, bending, kneeling, walking for extended periods.
Exposure to lawn equipment, hand tools, and motorized carts.
Exposure to noise, dust, grease, uneven terrain, and moving equipment.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor/outdoor shop and field settings with exposure to weather, grease, dirt, machinery, and loud
noise.
SCHEDULING
Golf Course Maintenance operates 7 days per week. This position may require early mornings,
weekends, and occasional overtime based on operational demands or equipment downtime.
