Lone Palm was founded by George Jenkins, the founder of Publix Super Markets. The course sits on a 388-acre property with a rich Florida landscape including wildlife, native plants and an abundance of ponds and lakes. It was designed by Dick Wilson and the course opened in 1964. It was restored by Steve Smyers in 1995 and again in 2022. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience with many aspects of turf management, including irrigation, personnel management, chemical and fertilizer applications, moisture management and working with a team dedicated to excellence.
Job Description:
Schedule, assist / participate, and oversee the day-to-day maintenance operations
Aide in the process of chemical and fertilizer applications
Carry out daily monitoring of various turfgrass environments – fairways, greens, tees, rough
Help train staff on proper techniques and procedures, with an emphasis on safety
The Assistant reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during his absence.
Work closely with the Superintendent in preparing both short and long-term agronomic strategies to maintenance practices on the golf course – irrigation, fertilization, topdressing etc.
Coordinating with the golf shop when dealing with tournaments, closures, maintenance schedules, etc.
Oversee completion of work assignments by staff and assists with field decisions and engages with all levels of staff to perform actual labor when and as needed.
Requirements:
The successful candidate must be self-motivated, organized, dedicated, detail-oriented and able to work in a team environment. Must possess leadership skills.
Possess the necessary commitment to work varied and flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, most holidays, and scheduled club events as needed.
A minimum of 3 years of golf course and 1 year of leadership experience (AITs and recent graduates are encouraged to apply).
Industry related education and certification a plus with a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
