Overview
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the golf course and grounds. This includes, but is not limited to, agronomy, staff supervision, budgeting, and irrigation. Additionally, there will be long-term goals and projects set by the board of directors, that will be expected to be met. The Golf Course Superintendent will collaborate closely with the General Manager to ensure the golf course is maintained to meet club standards. The superintendent is also responsible for ensuring that the golf course is in compliance with all environmental regulations.
Essential Responsibilities
With the chemical supplier, develops a yearly golf course maintenance plan for approval by the General Manager
Prepares the annual maintenance budget and submits to the GM for approval
Inspects golf course daily and reacts to any issues as they arise
Applies chemicals and fertilizers according to established schedules and procedures
Oversees course maintenance staff and manages staff schedules
Oversees greens watering schedules to insure proper moisture management and overall health
Interviews and selects staff members in compliance with club hiring policies
Insures proper repair and maintenance of all equipment.
Takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.
Recommends improvement plans for the golf course
Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
Oversees repairs of water lines or valves and may perform necessary repairs in an emergency
Determines cart path rules and whether the course should be closed due to weather conditions
Meets with greens committee & GM as scheduled
Provide a monthly report with information as dictated by the BOD to the GM.
Attends management staff meetings as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager
Experience Required
3+ years’ experience as a golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent
Pesticide Applicators License, Commercial Not for Hire
Working knowledge of turf grass science and maintenance practices
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
Degree in Agronomy preferred
