Assistant Superintendent
TPC Prestancia is searching for an Assistant Superintendent to join our team. This position will work with our Director of Agronomy and Golf Course Superintendent to help provide outstanding golf course conditions for our members on a daily basis. This is a critical leadership position that is perfect for someone who is looking to take the next step in their career.
TPC Prestancia has completed multi-million-dollar renovations to our Short Game/Practice areas and the Players Course in the last three years with a major cart path renovation project planned for the Players Course this summer. The ideal candidate will be someone who has a desire to become a Superintendent and has a strong irrigation background.

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Related Titles: Assistant Greenskeeper; Greens Assistant Superintendent
Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent / Director or Agronomy
Supervises: Golf Course Maintenance Foreman, Pesticides Application Specialist, Irrigation Specialist, Equipment Operator, and all groundskeepers/laborers.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture or Plant Science is preferred.
Previous supervisory experience in a club or golf course setting.
Candidates with a sufficient experience/qualifications outside of those listed above may be considered.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
Have a basic understanding of the rules of golf.
Be up to date on federal, state and local laws on golf course operations.
Some administrative and executive ability, especially critical in problem-solving and decision-making. Need to work in “team” atmosphere while executing the vision of the Superintendent/Director
Ability to perform required role in emergency situations.
An interest in the game of golf is preferred.
Experience with irrigation repair and maintenance is preferred.
Job Summary (Essential Functions)
Manage and maintain golf course properties including golf course, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, open spaces and the equipment used to maintain these areas at the direction of the Superintendent/Director of Agronomy
Responsible for the implementation of all golf course maintenance programs.
Ensures that daily course maintenance tasks are performed by staff to a high level.
Job Tasks/Duties
Maintains all grounds and course maintenance equipment according to the club’s / company’s turf management program with the assistance of the Superintendent.
Schedules, trains, supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned to department with the assistance of the Superintendent.
Maintains accurate work records for all personnel in the department with the assistance of the Superintendent.
Supervises and/or executes all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.
Maintains course in proper playing condition.
Inspects course regularly to evaluate and recommend improvements.
Inspects irrigation pump station frequently to ensure safe operation.
Helps to ensure that entire golf maintenance facility is clean and organized (including irrigation parts room, chemical storage room, and mechanics parts room).
Oversees repairs of broken water lines or valves and may perform necessary repairs in an emergency.
Records all maintenance on course for review with the Superintendent.
Establishes short- and long-range plans for the golf course with the Superintendent.
Oversees the application of fertilizers and nutrients for the property.
Works closely with the Superintendent to implement the property’s safety program.
Ensures that chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations; maintains required records and strives to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
Communicates as necessary with the golf shop relating to on-course activities.
Attends staff and management meetings.
Keeps members informed about current and future maintenance activities.
Conducts daily facility security checks ensuring accurate inventory of equipment and keys.
Plans professional development and training activities for subordinates including safety training for equipment use and proper handling of fertilizers, herbicides, and all other chemicals used on course; assures that SDSs are available in convenient location.
Works with Superintendent to ensure proper landscaping for property outside of golf course including the clubhouse and surrounding areas.
Helps to coordinate applicable work with outside contractors.
Determines when course should be closed due to weather conditions that may damage the course if play continues.
Conducts other appropriate tasks assigned by the General Manager or Superintendent.
Licenses and Special Requirements
Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA)
Pesticide Application certification or ability to acquire within 90 days.
Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
