The Green Department at The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale seeks a passionate, career-driven, self-motivated, detail-oriented turf professional who takes pride in preparing a championship-caliber golf course experience for its members and guests. Whether it may be project-related, an agronomic process, or preparing for a Member-Guest tournament, the Assistant-In-Training will work closely with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, and other management team members to develop short and long-term goals and plans to be completed within the operation. Primary responsibilities will include course set-up, precise application of plant protectants and fertilizers, moisture management, equipment operation, and small crew leadership. Problem-solving and providing solutions to challenges that the team faces will also be a responsibility.
The chosen candidate will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience working on both warm and cool-season turf varieties. In 2024, we opened a brand-new 9-hole, reversible Par 3 course. The 20-acre course has Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass tees and fairways with bentgrass putting greens built on a variable depth rootzone. Our Club recently hired Andrew Green Design to develop a long-range master plan for the historic Donald Ross 18-hole golf course. A complete restoration of the course is expected in 2028-2029. Additionally, we anticipate completing phase 2 of our state-of-the-art maintenance facility in 2026. Join our Turf Team, grow with us, and advance in your career path!
Self-motivated, positive attitude, willing to exceed member expectations, work every other weekend from April to November and some holidays. The average work week will range from 40-60 hours. Obtain and maintain a PA Applicator's License within 90 days of hire and undergo a criminal background check.

The Donald Ross design in Northeast Philadelphia, renamed The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, is set to undergo a restoration by architect Andrew Green in the coming years. In 2018, the League expanded golf to the Jersey Shore with the purchase of Sand Barrens Golf Club. Now Union League National Golf Club, the magnificent 27-hole golf course underwent a renovation by Fry-Straka Global Golf completed in 2022. The Union League’s third golf amenity, Union League Liberty Hill, opened in 2021 following the purchase of the Ace Club and Conference Center.
