The Assistant Superintendent aids the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Grounds in the leadership and execution of work schedules, maintenance programs and construction details. This person also helps direct the crew on the 18 holes that they are responsible for.
This position is involved with decision making, as their voice and opinions will be heard as we believe in making decisions as a team.
Daily Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in planning daily work schedules.
Assists and manages the hiring and training of employees.
Supervises employees on a daily basis.
Assists in supervision of various construction projects.
Applies fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
Helps prepare the course setup for daily play.
Assists in snow removal.
Sets good examples for others to follow in job performance, work safety, equipment care, attendance and striving for efficiency.
Opportunities to lead projects.
Involved with annual budget, agronomic, and chemical planning.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant/Turf Science or related field of study preferred.
Experience Requirements
1-2 years working on a golf course or similar field.
Knowledge of golf maintenance practices
General knowledge of irrigation maintenance/repairs.
Must demonstrate initiative and moral character.
Strong work ethic and personal commitment to improving/maintaining course conditions.
Special Requirements
Must have or be able to obtain a current Iowa Driver's License.
Must have or be able to obtain a Iowa Pesticide Applicator's Certificate.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes some overtime, weekends and some holidays.
