Job Responsibilities:
Supervises, directs, and assists crews in completing assignments; trains new crew members; consults with designers and planners on projects involving grounds and landscaping; ensures safety standards are met.
Operates vehicles and powered equipment; completes commercial mowing and snow removal; applies chemicals and spreads fertilizers, herbicides and soil amendments; mulches tree beds, plants trees, and flowers; aerates and seeds landscaping; trims and prunes shrubs and trees; repairs soil erosion; manages turf and chemical applications; oversees irrigation for JCPRD.
Performs various tasks requiring equipment, vehicle, and tool operation; uses a variety of small and large tools and operates a variety of light and medium duty equipment and attachments including: tractors, trucks, dump trucks, skid steer loader, water trucks, compact rollers, excavator, power broom, boom truck, and snow removal equipment; performs general and routine maintenance of light and medium duty equipment; changes over from mowing equipment to snow equipment.
Verifies request for goods and services against County contracts and funding sources; orders goods or services and follows-up/resolves discrepancies and ensures delivery; ensures appropriate routing and approval of purchase requests; completes and submits paperwork, timesheets and equipment logs.
Acts as the Superintendent in his absence.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Position performs golf maintenance and field level supervision for JCPRD golf courses and facilities including but not limited to greens, tees, fairways and roughs. The assistant superintendent will ensure that proper communication is taking place between the superintendent and all staff. This position assists the golf course superintendent in the performance and field level supervision of maintenance duties that includes disease identification, chemical applications, mowing, trimming, weeding, trash disposal, cleaning of grounds, The position also routinely provides daily direction regular maintenance and repairs on irrigations systems, vehicles, tractors, small engines, and other related duties.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Job Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of golf course maintenance experience.
Bachelor's or associate degree in horticulture, Golf course maintenance or turf related field.
Must have a KS 3B pesticide license or obtain one in the first 60-90 days of employment.
