Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team at The Brute and The Highlands golf courses. This role reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and plays a key part in managing the daily operations of both courses. The Assistant Superintendent will also assist with the grow-in of a new short game area and a 10-hole short course. Construction began in late August 2024.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct daily course inspections and assess playing conditions
Communicate course conditions to the superintendent, golf staff, and guests
Manage a hands-on, working role with a team of seasonal associates
Schedule and assign tasks to course maintenance crew members
Participate in the hiring and training of seasonal associates
Train staff on equipment use, safety procedures, and job tasks
Assist with chemical and fertilizer program scheduling and implementation
Oversee irrigation setup, scheduling, and repairs
Assist with ongoing course improvement projects
Coordinate with mechanics for equipment needs, maintenance, and repairs
Assume responsibility for the entire course's daily maintenance in the superintendent's absence
Contribute to campus snow removal efforts as needed
A passion for continuing a career in golf course maintenance
Turf management education is beneficial but not required
Previous turf maintenance or related experience is necessary
Familiarity with the game of golf
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to obtain a Wisconsin pesticide certification within the first year of employment
Proven management or supervisory experience, including leading a crew of 10+ individuals
Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions and able to lift up to 50 lbs
Flexible schedule, including availability for overtime, weekends, and holidays
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to foster teamwork and camaraderie among associates
Professional and ethical in all business practices
Willingness to build positive relationships with colleagues, managers, and industry vendors
