The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and works closely under their guidance to maintain the golf course and practice facilities. This position serves as a versatile team member, involved in all aspects of course maintenance, ensuring both the aesthetic appeal and optimal playing conditions are consistently met. The Assistant Superintendent will be actively engaged in hiring, onboarding, and managing the maintenance team, as well as training new staff to uphold the standards of Point Roberts Golf & Country Club. In the absence of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent may assume responsibilities.

• Inspect golf facility on a daily basis, monitor the condition and playability of all 18 holes and practice areas.
• Delegate and schedule daily responsibilities to maintenance staff, along with Superintendent.
• Assist in maintaining inventory and advise Superintendent and Mechanic of any equipment and/or supplies in need to ensure the proper maintenance and efficiency of the operation.
• Assist in establishing annual operating and capital expenditure budgets and review payroll reports for accuracy and approval.
• Instruct and train staff in safe equipment use, proper maintenance, and safe operating procedures
• Supervises and/or operates the use of pesticides and fertility applications by performing accurate calibration techniques to all equipment and training.
• Organize and keep accurate records on maintenance procedures, pesticide/fertilizer applications, safety meetings, and staff assignments
• Operates with the highest competency all golf course related equipment, including specialty machinery needed to renovate and maintain the golf course.
• Supervise the staff and participate in performance appraisals to ensure the standards of the Point Roberts Golf & Country Club are met or exceeded.
• Comply with all policies and procedures as set out by the Superintendent and Management team.

Qualifications

• A degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or a related field is preferred
• Previous experience as a Foreman or 2nd Assistant Superintendent, with a proven track record in a progressive and high-performing environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Rainbird Software, email, and internet applications.
• A valid driver’s license and Washington State pesticide applicator’s certificate, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
• A strong work ethic with the ability to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with effective problem-solving skills and the initiative to make decisions based on professional expertise.
