The City of Overland Park has a full-time Golf Course Attendant position available, at the Overland Park Golf Course, in the Parks and Recreation Department.
SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain the golf course, equipment and facilities such as mowing, chemical and pesticide applications, repair of irrigation system, turf maintenance. Operates equipment during emergency operations, including snow removal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in course set up. Cuts hole in green for cup and set up tee; removes trash, place trash containers and benches near play area; fills ball washers with fluid; and visually inspects tees and greens for disease. Fills out daily pump station report.
Mows and trims greens, tees, fairways and rough playing areas and surrounding areas. Sharpens blades and units as required.
Assists in repair of course irrigation system. Locates problem area; removes and replaces damaged section; checks and repairs wires; and checks for leaks. Backfills areas when repair is complete.
Checks and maintains equipment. Checks fluid levels and adds or changes as necessary. Sets cut and height on reel-type mowers and sharpens mowers as needed. Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Repairs as necessary per equipment manual instructions.
Operates equipment such as loader, backhoe, trencher, and chipper in a safe and judicious manner. Checks fluid levels prior to operation.
Assists in laying sod. Grades, tills, and levels ground area with appropriate equipment. Rolls sod on prepared surface, adjusts to fit properly, smooths with roller, waters and fertilizes.
Rakes and grooms sand trap areas. Operates sand-pro to smooth the sand. Hand rakes sand at side of trap.
The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with which interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school education or additional equivalent experience.
Possession of a valid Class A or B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Employees hired or promoted on or after January 1, 2012, must possess a valid Class A commercial driver’s license with air brake and tanker endorsements, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
Must maintain an insurable driving record.
Possession of Kansas Commercial Applicator Certification, with 3A and 3B endorsements, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
Six months experience in operation of golf course and farm-type equipment and turf maintenance, or an equivalent level of experience.
