The Golf Course Superintendent at Amarillo Country Club is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and aesthetic presentation of one of the most prestigious golf courses in the country. As a critical member of the leadership team, the Superintendent will work closely with the Head Golf Professional and the General Manager/COO to ensure that the course is maintained to the highest standards of playability, environmental sustainability, and member satisfaction. This role involves the oversight of all turfgrass, landscaping, and grounds maintenance activities, ensuring that Amarillo Country Club’s course consistently provides an exceptional golf experience. The Superintendent will also take the lead in long-term planning and capital improvement projects to enhance the course’s infrastructure and playability, while preserving the Club’s legacy. In addition, this individual will manage all related budgets and resources, develop and lead a high-performing team, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for the game of golf, a deep understanding of turf science, and a keen eye for detail. The Golf Course Superintendent will be a visible leader at Amarillo Country Club, engaging with members, guests, and staff to ensure that the course and its grounds remain a source of pride and enjoyment for all.
The ideal Golf Course Superintendent at Amarillo Country Club will be a highly skilled professional with a background in agronomy, turfgrass management, and golf course operations. A Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or a related field is preferred, along with GCSAA certification to demonstrate a commitment to excellence and professional growth. Candidates should have at least 7-10 years of experience in golf course maintenance, ideally in a leadership role at a private club or high-end golf facility. The Superintendent should bring deep knowledge of agronomy, irrigation systems, landscaping, and environmental regulations, backed by a proven track record of maintaining world-class playing conditions. Strong financial acumen is critical, as the role requires effective budget management, resource allocation, and strategic planning. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for fostering positive relationships with members, staff, and club leadership. Highly organized and detail-oriented, the candidate should be adept at managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Within the first year, the Superintendent will be expected to implement a comprehensive agronomic plan that enhances turf health, course aesthetics, and sustainability.
