About the Club:
Bear Lakes has been considered a 'golfer's club,’ currently boasting two Jack Nickolas Signature golf courses, The Lakes Course and Links Course, with a planned full course renovation for the Links Course in early 2026. Both courses offer different and challenging play for golfers of all levels and have hosted everything from U.S. Open qualifiers to a PGA TOUR Qualifying School to various local and state championships. Founded in 1984, the Club is located in sunny West Palm Beach, Florida, just minutes from I-95, Palm Beach International Airport, downtown West Palm Beach, Singer Island, and the island of Palm Beach.
The Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for golf course operation and maintenance and overseeing the planned renovation in 2026. The responsibilities include turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance or irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance with regulatory issues. The Golf Course Superintendent will lead, direct, train, develop, and coach the team and create an environment where staff is involved, enthusiastic, communicative, and have respect for themselves, members, guests, and the property.
Career Trajectory:
As the Golf Course Superintendent, you will be joining an elite team and overseeing the maintenance, construction, and grow-in of the Links Course. The course will be open for play until the summer of 2025, when you begin prepping it for its full renovation. This will be one of Love Golf Design’s 1st courses to be built in South Florida. This opportunity will allow you to learn and grow with Bear Lakes or prepare you for your next opportunity.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for all phases of golf maintenance, agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel.
Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Head Golf Professional and other departments on any golf course play and maintenance issues.
Assists in the planning and oversees construction, renovation, and maintenance activities.
Supports and assists with membership seminars and orientations.
Operates fiscally responsible and professional, developing, managing, and monitoring operating and capital budgets and expenditures.
Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and wetlands.
Manages an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells, and other water source usage.
Recruits supervises, and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
Provides technical, operational, and safety training to ensure that staff works within OSHA, club safety, and state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
Oversees proper and safe operation and maintenance of maintenance equipment.
Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Maintains records and completes required reporting.
Oversee inventory, ordering parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience leading, developing, training, overseeing, coaching, and motivating a golf course team.
Experience in managing and maintaining exceptional golf course conditions.
Familiar with golf course construction, renovation activities, equipment, and tools used in construction and maintenance.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Understanding of pest control products and their applications.
Understanding of turf chemical and fertilizer products and their applications.
Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of the game of golf and the effects agronomic practices have on playability.
Have a BS, Associate, or Certificate in turf grass management or relevant experience.
Have a current state certification or license for pesticide applications or the ability to acquire a license.
