The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Golf Course Technician at the Village Green Golf Course in the Public Works Department. This semi-skilled position performs intermediate work supervising and participating in preparing and maintaining the public golf course and related facilities, preparing and maintaining records and files and operates snow plowing and ice control equipment during winter months, and related work as required. This position exercises general supervision over assigned staff.
HOURS: GenerallyMonday-Friday 6:00am-2:30 during golf season with rotating weekends. Winter hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm with earlier starts for snow events. Year-around shared position working spring through fall at the Golf Course approximately 8 months and approximately 4 months in the winter in the Streets Division.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions of the Golf Course Technician include, but are not limited to the following major duties performed. Duties are listed from most to least important.
Assigns duties and oversees work of seasonal employees
Operates equipment associated with golf course maintenance, such as greens, fairway and rough mowers, utility carts, tractor, sprayer, etc.
Applies fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides; maintains fertilizer and chemical records.
Maintains golf course irrigation systems.
Repairs turf maintenance equipment.
Installs irrigation systems and drainage fields.
Observes course usage.
Prepares and maintains appropriate records, files and reports.
Operates snow plowing and ice control equipment during winter months.
Assists with street maintenance work as required.
Performs other duties as requested.
Attendance at off-site courses/trainings/seminars may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To perform the Golf Course Technician successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; Associates/Technical degree preferred
One year experience in turf maintenance, or irrigation systems or related field
Training, Certificates, and Licenses
Minnesota Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 3 months of hire (training provided)
Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) within 6 months of hire.We provide the training!
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES The Golf Course Technician requires thorough knowledge of golf course maintenance principles, methods, materials and practices; thorough knowledge of golf course equipment operation, maintenance and repair manuals; ability to read and understand technical documents such as engineering and architectural drawings, electrical and mechanical diagrams and irrigation maps; ability to train and supervise the work of staff; ability to maintain accurate records; skill in operating of golf course equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, course guests, and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to vibration and wearing a self contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
