The Preserve Golf Club is located in the Santa Lucia Mountains above Carmel Valley, CA on a 20,000-acre private nature preserve.  A few miles from the Monterey Peninsula and a number of iconic courses.  The Tom Fazio design opened in 2000 and has since been the recipient of many awards and accolades including Golf Digest "America's top 100 Golf Courses" and "Best in California" along with Golfweek "Top 100 Residential Course in U.S." to name a few.   

The Preserve Golf Club has been a leader in many advancements towards sustainability and water conservation.  Santa Ana Bermudagrass fairways and practice facility provide drought resistance along with recent efforts to retain captured storm water for irrigation through the use of evaporation control devices (including a floating 1147 panel solar array) across our storage ponds. 

The golf course winds through rolling hills covered in oak trees, red woods, and native grasses encompassing 365 acres.  Wildlife abounds with turkeys, deer, bobcats, and hawks commonly observed.  If nature is your thing, it doesn't get much better than The Preserve!        

As the 1st Assistant Superintendent, you will play a crucial role in collaborating closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure that the golf course maintains excellent playing conditions. In this position, you will be responsible for managing a team of 22 employees overseeing the daily operations on and around the golf course, with the goal of providing a safe, efficient, and enjoyable team atmosphere.  Additionally, you will oversee the maintenance of 5 acres of event and recreational turf, which includes a softball field and croquet lawn. Your duties will involve planning and implementing turf care programs, supervising staff, monitoring equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and programming irrigation systems, handwatering, and ensuring that all areas under your purview meet the highest standards of quality and aesthetics. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, strong leadership skills, and a passion for golf course management and turf care.

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course maintenance
• Experience managing a team of employees
• Strong knowledge of turf care practices and equipment operation
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Possession of or ability to obtain necessary certifications (e.g., pesticide application license)
