The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent role at Lookaway Golf Club is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Assistant Superintendent who is well-rounded in all facets of golf course maintenance operations. Working with the Golf Course Superintendent and another assistant superintendent the right person will be stepping into a role with tremendous potential to further elevate an already special place!

Lookaway Golf Club offers pure golf in a rural setting, designed by internationally respected architect Rees Jones. The championship course, acclaimed by Golf Digest magazine as one of the top ranked courses in Pennsylvania, encompasses 230 acres and is defined by seclusion, tranquility, and a dedication to a unique golf club experience. Lookaway is a golf only club focusing on optimal playing conditions while averaging 14,500 rounds annually. 

The Club also owns several cottages and is developing a campus master plan undertaking a number of key amenity capital improvements. 

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position at Lookaway Golf Club is a unique and sought after position within the industry and Philadelphia area golf market. This is a hands-on management position where the selected candidate will work hand and hand with our Golf Course Superintendent and our other Assistant Superintendent to maintain and enhance our daily playing conditions at Lookaway Golf Club. The right candidate is someone who aspires to become a Golf Course Superintendent in the future. Lookaway is in the beginning phases of an irrigation system renovation slated to start in the summer of 2028, providing a wonderful learning opportunity for someone who would like to enhance their construction and renovation experience.

EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS 

The candidate should have a minimum of an Associate’s degree from an intensive two-year turf grass management program. Pesticide Application certification. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The job operates in a professional environment related to golf course operations. While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; kneel; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The job description reflects the assignment of essential functions and may be modified as needed; it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

45 Hours per week April-November done at 11:30am on Fridays during the season

January-March 4-day work weeks

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS 

• Assisting with irrigation repair and maintenance/troubleshooting 
• Oversee sprayer operation and calibration (Toro Sprayers) 
• Responsible for leading small crews and some in-house projects throughout the year 
• Schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates personnel assigned
• Maintains golf course in proper playing condition
• Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in implementing and enforcing comprehensive safety programs
• Communicates as necessary with the Head Golf Professional and Caddie Master to discuss daily conditions of the golf course, maintenance plans, and scheduled events
• Plans professional development and training activities for subordinates including safety training for equipment use and proper handling of fertilizers, herbicides, and all other chemical used on course
• Ensures proper landscaping for property outside golf course including the clubhouse and surrounding areas
• Assists with snow removal
• Maintains all grounds and course maintenance equipment according to the club’s turf management program
• Communicates with the mechanic to ensure equipment is in proper working condition 
• Conducts other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent
