The Head Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) reports directly to the General Manager. The GCS is expected to provide quality leadership and will lead and manage his/her department to ensure superb golfing conditions: firm, fast, and green. The GCS is responsible for all day-to-day agronomy operations at Southwind. The GCS will also oversee the swimming pool, pickleball area, driving range, and parking lots ensuring that presentation of all these components are in order. One of the first projects the new GCS will have is to develop a strategic plan on incorporating more native areas around tee boxes and other necessary areas.
Continuing education and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success. In addition, the GCS will provide innovative and relevant leadership and in perpetuating and fostering an educational culture of developing and producing future turf professionals. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES • Proven experience providing exceptional golfing conditions on a daily basis • Experience with Bent Grass greens in harsh growing conditions • Successful experience with all grasses • Proactive, high-energy leader and team builder • Strong observational skills, a good listener • Strong budget management, forecasting skills, and proven planning skills • Demonstrated experience developing future turf professionals • Excellent communication skills with both club members and team members • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and creative • Ability to manage resources, specifically water management • Stays current with advances in turf technology, irrigation management, and equipment • A strong relationship builder collaborating with GM, Golf Professional and Club members • Ensure proper mixing, calibration, and application of all chemical/fertilizers used on the course • Assure that effective orientation and training are given to each new staff member • Develop ongoing training programs • Consistent career track record • Passion for the job and a high Golf IQ members and staff along with a love of the game of golf and a relentless attention to detail.
A degree in turf management or related field of study is required. Certification is preferred. 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Bent Grass
