About Childress Hall: Childress Hall is an exclusive private club that will be featuring two 36-hole links-style golf courses, including two accompanying 9-hole Par 3 courses. Located just outside the town of Childress, Texas, this prestigious club sits in the beautiful landscape between the Prairie Dog Town Fork of The Red River and scenic sand dunes, offering a golfing experience reminiscent of Scotland. With world-renowned course designers Tom Doak and Gil Hanse leading the design, Childress Hall is set to be a destination for discerning golfers. The Doak course construction has commenced and is nearing completion, with the Hanse course beginning in November 2024.
At Childress Hall, interns will have the unique opportunity to work with the latest in equipment assets and technology, as well as contributing to the development and maintenance of two premier courses. An intern at Childress Hall will be an individual who is a team player with a passion for the turf industry and a valuable asset to the development of a team and will play an integral part in continuing development of the golf course maintenance department.
Position Overview: Childress Hall is offering a hands-on Turfgrass Internship for enthusiastic and motivated individuals eager to gain invaluable experience in golf course management and construction. Interns will work closely with the Superintendent and turf management team in the maintenance and construction of the Tom Doak and Gil Hanse designed layouts.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to both cool-season and warm-season turf management in a semi-arid environment. You will assist in the management of premium turf varieties, irrigation systems, chemical applications, and cutting-edge maintenance practices for links-style golf courses. This role will also provide exposure to the construction and grow-in phases of the new courses.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with daily maintenance operations, including mowing, fertilizing, and irrigation
Learn and perform pesticide applications, calibration of equipment, and record-keeping
Participate in the grow-in process for new turf areas on the courses
Gain hands-on experience with advanced equipment and technologies
Collaborate with the team to ensure course playability and presentation meet high standards
Assist in monitoring plant health, soil conditions, and moisture management
Participate in various course improvement projects
Lead projects and/or assignments on the construction of the golf course
Assist in the planning and implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives
Report on and oversee contractors in the field during construction phases

Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related program
Strong interest in golf course management and turfgrass science
Excellent work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team
Previous experience in golf course maintenance is a plus but not required
Multiple positions are available, and extended internships are possible.
Childress Hall will be an exclusive private 36-hole links style golf course with 2 accompanying 9-hole Par 3 courses located in northwest Texas, just outside the town of Childress. The Club will have more than $5 million in equipment assets under management. Construction of the first golf course, designed by Tom Doak, has commenced and the construction of the second golf course, designed by Gil Hanse, will commence in November 2024. The Club and courses will take full advantage of its location along the Prairie Dog Town Fork of The Red River on the western edge and the sand dunes on the eastern edge that is reminiscent of Scotland. The Private Club will be a destination club with 150 members with lodging and airport access 10 minutes from the Club.
