Position Summary
The Course Superintendent will be responsible for the maintenance, care, and improvements to the Club’s 18-hole golf course, practice facilities, and clubhouse grounds. The responsibilities of the Course Superintendent include the maintenance, operation, management, preparation, improvement, and playing condition optimization of the golf course and club grounds. The Course Superintendent will fulfill these responsibilities through positive, hands-on, effective leadership. Among other things, the ideal candidate will possess skillsets and experience that allow them to efficiently and effectively guide, develop, train, manage, oversee, coach, and motivate the entire golf course maintenance team.

Effectively lead, recruit, develop, train, oversee, manage, coach, motivate, and assist the golf course maintenance team.
Maintain the 18-hole golf course, practice facilities, and clubhouse areas, and all other grounds to ensure exemplary playing conditions and aesthetics by consistently inspecting what is expected.
Care and condition, of course, including turf management, irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide applications.
Inspect course regularly to evaluate, recommend, and direct routine and large-scale improvements.
Work with the General Manager and Owner to plan maintenance, improvements, and renovation projects for the golf course. Attend meetings when requested, present information, and explain complex ideas and concepts clearly and comprehensively.
Prepare an annual agronomy plan and associated budget for the maintenance and capital improvements of the golf course following established maintenance standards and long-range plans and submit to General Manager for approval.
Manage and oversee all golf course maintenance expenditures and exercise cost control measures, report any discrepancies, implement corrective action, and maintain operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets as closely as possible.
Plan and direct all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic, business, and administrative expertise to achieve outstanding course maintenance standards and long-range goals.
Manage any course construction projects and renovations, report variances to plan/budget, and implement corrective action.
Interview and hire the course maintenance team and direct, manage, oversee, develop, train, and coach said team and any other staff responsible for maintaining the course.
Work effectively and collaboratively with other management team members, offering assistance and knowledge to improve the Club’s golf course and team.
Research, source, recommend, and utilize equipment and supplies to maintain the course while maximizing course conditions and enhancing staff productivity.
Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of all golf course equipment. Develop and oversee written, detailed equipment maintenance programs and inventory control procedures. Maintain accountability for the cost, utilization, performance, operational availability, and longevity of course equipment.
Develop, recommend, implement, maintain, repair, and oversee the course irrigation and drainage systems.
Identify preventative measures and assess turf damage and recommend, implement, and oversee application and treatment of proper pesticides, fertilizers, and nutrients both to maintain and to improve the course.
Ensure chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations; maintains required records and strive to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
Oversee accurate and complete record keeping for course maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, inventory, weather and timekeeping and payroll for the team.
Implement and ensure the course team understands and exercises safe work practices.
Work closely with Golf Operations team to prepare for daily play, tournaments, and events.
Perform other duties as deemed required by General Manger or Ownership
Meet with the General Manager and Ownership on a regular basis to provide an overall update, discuss opportunities, problems and recommend solutions. Provide monthly reporting, including budget status, to General Manager.
Qualifications
2+ years experience as a golf course superintendent or 3+ years experience as an assistant superintendent
Experience in all phases of golf course management
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills leading a team
Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
Strong observational skills that result in an acute attention to detail
Proven working knowledge of turfgrass science and maintenance practices with positive results
Experience managing Tifdwarf greens preferred, but not required
Hunter irrigation experience preferred, but not required.
Must have or be able to obtain Texas Pesticide License in the first 90 days of employment
Ability to operate any and all golf course maintenance equipment
Must have a valid driver’s license
Computer skills including productive and efficient use of Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to work standing, sitting, walking, and/or kneeling for extended periods of time
Ability to lift and/or push/pull up to 60 pounds
Ability to work/manage/lead productively in any and all weather conditions including wet, humid, windy, extreme heat, and extreme cold.
Ability to work in outdoor conditions that will occasionally expose the employee to various species of wildlife
