Position Summary:
The Assistant Equipment Mechanic, along with the Equipment Manager, is responsible for repairing and maintaining all equipment used for golf course maintenance, landscape operations, pond maintenance, and other departments. This includes checking the quality of mower cuts, preventive maintenance, servicing and repairing equipment, fabrication, and meeting or exceeding the established standards for guest and team satisfaction. The Assistant Equipment Mechanic is an integral part of Maintenance Operation and is a crucial player on the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and diagnose problems, repair and adjust, and ensure all equipment is properly cleaned.
Provide training to staff members on the safe and proper operation of equipment.
Pre-check vehicles, equipment, and various tools.
Lead by example and help set the performance benchmark in innovation and motivation.
Function as a coach, encouraging team members to be diligent with equipment care and operation.
Assist the Equipment Manager in maintaining records of repairs, equipment and parts inventory, preventative maintenance, grinding, and fuel & lubricant usage.
Be environmentally sensitive and preserve the turf, landscape, cultural sites, indigenous plants, ocean, and property of Barbuda Ocean Club.
Act always in accordance with the Country’s and Barbuda Ocean Club‘s Health and safety laws, regulations, procedures, and risk assessments. This included always wearing personal protective equipment.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop.
Assist with other tasks, such as working as an operator on the course.
Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):
Basic turf and landscape equipment knowledge and ability to use, maintain, diagnose, and repair equipment.
Basic understanding of hydraulics, electrical components, combustion engines, and diagnostics.
Ability to read manuals and understand preventive maintenance requirements and schedules.
Know and can utilize various trade tools and their safety guidelines.
Have a basic understanding of the game of golf and the effects turf equipment has on turf conditions.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and a shift greater than eight (8) hours.
Have a valid Antigua/Barbuda Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one.
Knowledgeable in Outlook, Excel, Word, and preventive maintenance systems.
Trade school or formal education in mechanical, electrical, or related programs or experience.
