Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma has an assistant golf course superintendent opening. The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent and may serve in the superintendent’s capacity in his absence. The superintendent and assistant will both monitor and inspect the course to provide members and guests with excellent playing conditions on a daily basis. In collaboration with the superintendent, both will be responsible for directing all aspects of turf health, playability and aesthetics of the entire golf course property to meet Jimmie Austin standards. This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibilities of leading, directing, overseeing and training the turf care staff including any disciplinary action/documentation required. The assistant will be required to create a daily schedule, supervise and oversee the proper performance of the staff to carry out the daily schedule. Other areas of emphasis will be operating all irrigation systems, performing and overseeing all chemical applications and documentation. The assistant will be involved in building weekly, monthly and yearly agronomic schedules and plans for the turf care department with some emphasis on budgetary items.
The position requires a 2 or 4-year degree in turfgrass management, an Oklahoma pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain one, and a valid driver’s license. At least two years’ golf course maintenance experience and substantial experience with bentgrass greens management in the transitions zone is preferred. The position requires an individual who is a proven leader, self-starter, hard-working and maintains a positive attitude daily.

Oversee and assist with all chemical application operations of the department
Oversee and assist with the overall bentgrass greens management of the department
Compensation:
Full-time salary or hourly position with PTO, medical and retirement benefits, GCSAA membership, clothing allowance, golfing privileges all dependent on past experience

Jimmie Austin Golf Club at the University of Oklahoma, is owned and operated by the University of Oklahoma. It is the home to the University Men and Women’s golf teams. Golfweek recently voted Jimmie Austin as the #6 Best Campus Courses. The Jimmie hosted a Korn Ferry tour event in 2023 and 2024 and has hosted a number of amateur and collegiate championships. The course is an 18-hole layout with practice facilities. The OU Men and Women’s golf teams have a separate practice facility, including a 4-hole short course on property. Bentgrass greens consist of A-1/A-4, G-2, and Pure Distinction with Zeon Zoysia tees, collars and approaches, Bermuda fairways and roughs. The history of the course is a steeped in tradition and excellence as the University itself. The course was designed by the renowned architect Perry Maxwell in 1951 and renovated in 1996 by Robert Cupp. The most recent renovation concluded in 2017 and was led by University of Oklahoma golfer and architect, Tripp Davis.
