Wilshire Country Club, a private 18-hole golf course located near downtown Los Angeles, is seeking an Assistant in Training to join the Agronomy Team. The Assistant in Training will work closely with the Director of Agronomy, the Agronomy Team, and other departments within the club.
This role is designed to help teach and advance the skills necessary to advance in the turfgrass industry. The Assistant in Training will be involved in all aspects of maintaining the course and property. These include, but are not limited to, daily golf course setup, water management, fertilizer and chemical calibrations and applications, small projects, and assistance with the grow-in during the project.
Wilshire CC has been host to the LPGA's LA Championship since 2018 and has a rich history of hosting professional tournaments in decades past. The course was built in 1919 by Norman Macbeth and boasts a wonderful layout with extensive bunkering and native areas. Wilshire CC has a significant golf course restoration project set to begin in October 2024. The club will be closed for a calendar year to perform the work. Project highlights include: 23 USGA greens, a new irrigation system, new drainage, 115 new bunkers, 18 new teeing grounds, extensive barranca shaping and erosion control, among many other changes. The course will be all bermudagrass with bentgrass greens and buffalograss native areas.
Education/Experience
2/4 year degree or certificate. Currently enrolled in a turfgrass program, or sufficient experience. Multiple seasons of golf course maintenance experience is preferred.
Wilshire Country Club is a private 18 hole club featuring a unique 6,500 yard layout situated on 105 acres in Hancock Park, Los Angeles. Built in 1919 by Norman Macbeth, Wilshire's undulating bentgrass/poa annua greens, extensive bunkering and barranca, which comes into play on the majority of holes, present a fun and challenging test of golf. Wilshire CC annually hosts an LPGA event every April. The course has hosted PGA Tour events and Champions Tour events in decades past.
