The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for working closely with the Director of Agronomy and the Golf Course Superintendent. He/she will be responsible for maintaining championship conditions for our membership as well as supervising all golf course maintenance activities and personnel. Located within 30 minutes of downtown Austin, we are a newly constructed Tom Fazio designed golf course, which features 007 Bentgrass greens complete with Turfbreeze fans, Zeon Zoysia-grass fairways, tees and roughs. The club is operating in year 4 of a 5-year Toro lease package with a Rainbird 2 Wire IC System. Construction is set to begin on a new state of the art clubhouse in 2025. Driftwood is 1 of 33 clubs that makeup The Discovery Land Company portfolio worldwide. There are multiple new properties in various stages of construction with others slated to begin in 2025 and beyond. Supervises maintenance crew, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects, trains and evaluates staff, reviews the completed work to assure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties
Monitors golf course and all club grounds in all seasons; repair and improve the turf, grounds and irrigation systems; inspects work for compliance to safety standards
Assures the golf course maintains the best possible playing conditions including proper placement of pins, tee marker, and proper raking of bunkers.
Supervises and assists in the maintenance and repair of golf course irrigation system and water transfer pipeline.
Oversees and performs pesticide applications and handles hazardous materials in accordance with all state and Federal regulatory compliance
Oversees the maintenance and operation of all golf course and grounds equipment.
Schedules, trains, supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned to department.
Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of - plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course
Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
Minimum requirement of an associate’s degree or 2-year certificate in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field (Bachelors preferred).
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance,
Strong knowledge of turfgrass species, irrigation systems, and golf course agronomy practices.
Well versed in all aspects of Golf Course maintenance
Valid driver's license and pesticide applicator's license (or ability to obtain).
