Blue Hills Golf Club is a semi-private golf course located in Roanoke, Virginia. We host approximately 45,000 rounds of golf per year and are regarded as one of the best conditioned golf courses in Southwest Virginia. 

Blue Hills Golf Club is looking to hire a Golf Course Superintendent. Our current Superintendent, Roscoe Craighead will be retiring after 50 years of service to our club. The successful candidate will be able to work alongside Roscoe as he transitions towards retirement. The start date of our new hire is negotiable from as soon as practicable to no less than 7 months before Roscoe’s retirement date. Having both people employed for an extended period will enable a smooth transition.

Position Concept: Responsible for direction, development and implementation of all aspects of maintaining the golf course and the other facilities of the Corporation. Coordinate the maintenance operation plans and actions with the management of the golf course operation to maximize the benefits and the results of both operations and the overall operation of the corporation.

The superintendent will report directly to the Greens Committee Chairperson. He will work closely with our PGA General Manager to ensure the coordinated, efficient and effective operation of Blue Hills Golf Corporation.

• Experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture
• A working knowledge of the construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers
• A degree or advanced knowledge of agronomy, horticulture, plant or soil science
• High degree of administrative and executive ability including effective oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency
• Certified and/or licensed for pesticide usage
• Knowledge of irrigation including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells and automatic controls and drainage
• Ability to evaluate the course from a player’s perspective

About Blue Hills Golf Club

Blue Hills Golf Club is a semi-private golf course in Roanoke Virginia. A course was built on this property in the early 1920's but closed during World War II. In 1956 our 18-hole golf course was routed by then professional Clarence King and several charter members. in 1957, the club was incorporated laying the foundation for the future. The corporation has 342 stockholders and is run by a board of 9 members. The golf course is considered to be one of the best conditioned courses in Southwest Virginia and conducts approximately 45,000 rounds of golf annually. The property consists of 160 acres including 18 holes, 2 practice putting greens 23 bunkers and a driving range including 33 mat stations and 2 different grass tee boxes. The driving range also has Top Tracer mobile, and lights for evening enjoyment. The golf course has 2 pump houses, dual irrigation system and an irrigation pond that is backed up by city water. The club is in a sound financial position having invested over One Million dollars in assets and improvements since 2019, without adding to our debt service.
