The University of Texas Golf Club is excited to present the opportunity to join a tremendous club as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. If you are looking to take your career to the next level and gain valuable agronomic and management skills, this opportunity is for you. Our Golf Course Maintenance Department is looking to fill an important role in our department. You would join a Golf Course Superintendent, Senior Assistant Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, an AIT, and 18 Turf Technicians. This position will be a hands-on position with supervisory responsibilities throughout the week and sole supervisory responsibilities on assigned weekends.
The University of Texas Golf Club is a private, member only club consisting of an 18 – hole championship golf course and home to four – time national champion, 2024 Big 12 Conference Champion Men’s collegiate golf team, and 2024 Big 12 Conference Champion Women’s collegiate golf team. The UT Golf Club also boasts a 6 – hole Par 3 course “Spieth Lower 40”, designed by Longhorn legend himself, Jordan Spieth. A recently renovated, state of the art double sided driving range gives members and the UT teams the latest swing technologies to work on their game.
It is in our agronomic culture to analyze and test the latest turf varieties on property to provide the best playing conditions and also the best real-world tests for our future. Currently, we have TifEagle greens, TifSport fairways and rough, and L1F (Trinity) zoysia tees, collars and approaches on our championship 18. The Spieth Lower 40 has TifEagle greens, L1F collars and approaches, Zeon zoysia fairways, and Cutlass Zoysia rough. Our driving range tees are Latitude 36 bermudagrass with a Zeon zoysia fairway and target greens. The championship 18 and practice facilities are equipped with the Rain Bird Cirrus Freedom Maxi irrigation system while the short course is equipped with the Rain Bird IC system.
We are a progressive club always looking to improve. Each year we take on course projects to enhance the golf course and experience for our members and their guests. We have also just completed the full renovation of the UT Team Practice Facility. The renovation doubled the square footage on one of the putting greens to just over 10,000 sq.ft. which was springed with Tif3d ultradwarf bermudagrass. The bunkers and surrounds were reshaped and sodded with Tahoma 31 bermudagrass and the renovation also included an all-new updated irrigation system, switching to HDPE pipe and the Rain Bird IC system.

Turfgrass Management:
Assist in the planning and implementation of turf maintenance programs, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control.
Monitor and maintain turf health, ensuring optimal playing conditions on greens, fairways, tees, and roughs.
Oversee aeration, topdressing, and other cultural practices to promote turf health and resilience.
Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance:
Supervise landscaping activities such as planting, pruning, mulching, and bed maintenance to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the course.
Manage the upkeep of non-turf areas, including flower beds, shrubbery, trees, and natural areas.
Irrigation System Operation and Maintenance:
Assist in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system to ensure efficient water distribution.
Monitor soil moisture levels and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly to promote healthy turf growth while conserving water.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate and maintain various turf maintenance equipment, such as mowers, tractors, aerators, and sprayers, ensuring proper functioning and safety.
Perform routine equipment inspections, lubrication, and minor repairs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
Team Leadership and Training:
Supervise and train grounds maintenance staff in proper turf care techniques, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, accountability, and professional development among crew members.
Environmental Stewardship:
Implement sustainable practices and environmental stewardship initiatives to minimize the golf course's ecological footprint.
Ensure compliance with local regulations and best management practices related to water conservation, pesticide use, and habitat preservation.
Project Management:
Assist in the planning and execution of capital improvement projects, renovations, and course enhancements under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent.
Coordinate with outside contractors, vendors, and consultants as needed to accomplish project goals on time and within budget.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in turfgrass management, horticulture, agronomy, or related field.
Previous experience in golf course maintenance, with a thorough understanding of turfgrass agronomy principles and practices.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining turf equipment, irrigation systems, and related machinery.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse team.
Knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards, and best management practices in golf course management.
Detail-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required in a seasonal outdoor environment.
