The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the successful maintenance of the entire golf course, clubhouse grounds, irrigation equipment and maintenance vehicles, as well as the hiring, managing and training of the staff. He/she must possess the following skills: · Pesticide application license · Turf management degree preferred (2 to 4 years minimum experience as an Assistant Superintendent). · Have a very good understanding of native Texas turfgrass as well as invasive weeds, funguses, insects or any other factor that might impact effective turf growth in Texas. Duties - The individual will directly report to the APGL managing Director and the Director of Golf
- Hire, fire and discipline staff
- Train, implement procedures, conduct performance evaluations and provide appropriate feedback to golf course maintenance staff
- Manage staff performance
- Perform chemical and fertilizer applications as well as weed and pest control programs for turf grass and plant care.
- Must have pesticide applicators license and assure the proper application of chemicals
- Must stay up on local pesticide laws as well as Texas labor laws
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision and work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Bilingual (English - Spanish) communication ability preferred
- Directly supervises the repair and maintenance of all golf course equipment and ordering of parts.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities • Knowledge of management principles & practices • Knowledge of the game of golf • Knowledge of all materials and techniques used in the construction and maintenance of a golf course. • Knowledge of all safety procedures, rules and regulations • Knowledge of employee management principles and practices • Skill in operating all specialized golf course equipment, sprayers, fertilization equipment, computerized irrigation system, radio, telephone, computer, general office equipment and supplies, and motor vehicles. • Ability to plan, train, supervise and delegate all tasks necessary for the maintenance of the golf course. • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally will all supervisors and golf course personnel. • Ability to accurately complete forms as required. • Ability to obtain and maintain state pesticide application licenses.
