The Ute Indians called it the Uncompahgre Plateau, the “rocks made red by water.” A rolling mountain range, it overlooks a rich agricultural valley and nestles beside the craggy San Juan Mountains. There, on the eastern edge of the plateau, less than 20 miles southwest of the town of Montrose, is a 4,800-acre parcel of perfect Colorado high country. We’ve named it Cornerstone, a place removed, but far from remote. Greg Norman has walked this land many times. And many times more, the rolling topography here has proven to be an eager canvas for Norman’s master touch. Thanks to Norman’s “least disturbance” design philosophy, the Cornerstone golf course is remarkable – so natural that one intuitively knows that the layout wasn’t so much built, as discovered.
