Westwood Shores Golf Course About the Westwood Shores Golf Course The Westwood Shores Golf Course is an 18-hole, Carlton Gibson design, located in the heart of the East Texas Forests outside of Trinity, Texas. The course is in a vibrant, growing, Deed restricted community along the Lake Livingston shoreline. Located within 100 miles of Houston, the community has been a vital part of the surrounding East Texas area drawing golfers from all over the lake area. The par 72 golf course measures 6800 yards. The course has newly installed Toro irrigation satellites with G-4 face plates and e-osmac central control. The course is member owned and supported by the golfing community and the 1200 + property owners and is moving toward replanting of the greens and true-lease equipment package. POSITION DESCRIPTIONS AND DUTIES (may be modified whenever deemed appropriate by management): - 3-5+ years golf course maintenance experience required.
- Supervisory, coaching and staff development experience required.
- A 4-year college degree in agronomy, horticulture, biology, or a related field is required.
- A Texas State Pesticide License is required.
- STGCSAA Member preferred, will be expected to join, and continue education on current industry trends and knowledge.
- Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
- A strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business.
- Highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail.
- Computer skills are preferred.
- Supervising the maintenance of the golf course and overseeing related construction projects.
- Supervising the maintenance and repair of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
- Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf. A high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision-making.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to operate equipment, perform and train staff on the tasks associated with all golf course maintenance.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The golf course superintendent assumes responsibility for managing and maintaining golf course properties, which may include: - The golf course.
- Maintenance equipment.
- Practice facilities.
- Open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage, and areas outside the perimeter fence.
- Sod nurseries.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with other management team members, offering assistance and knowledge to improve the Club’s golf course and team.
- Construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
- Assist in preparing the annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of course properties. The superintendent formulates the annual maintenance and capital budgets to implement board policies established in accordance with the long-range plan and defined maintenance standards.
- Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises a staff of employees for maintaining the properties.
- Plans all maintenance and project work, applying his or her agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals.
- Manage and oversee all golf course maintenance expenditures and exercise cost control measures, report any discrepancies, implement corrective action, and maintain operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets as closely as possible.
- Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work. The superintendent frequently inspects the golf course and assists in the maintenance of related areas to evaluate management standards and effect changes in management programs.
- Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and other properties.
- Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
- Communicates regularly with other members of the top management group to discuss activities, goals, plans and member/customer input.
- Work closely with Golf Operations team to prepare for daily play, tournaments, and events.
- Meet with the Community Manager and Property Owners Association on a regular basis to provide an overall update, discuss opportunities, problems and recommend solutions. Provide monthly reporting, including budget status, to Community Manager.
