The University of Alabama is creating a state of the art team practice facility which is now under construction. This facility will have a team building that opens up to a driving range with 8 putting greens. The facility will include a full-length 9 hole golf course with multiple tees and ways to play the holes. The greens will be Tifeagle. This is a secluded "core" golf course on a site with significant elevation change. It is located close to campus. Use of the facility will be limited to the Men's and Women's golf teams.
The Superintendent's responsibilities include:
Providing the best possible playing surfaces for the golf teams on a daily basis
Management of the entire property envelope including creeks, woods and ornamental landscaping
Communicating management status, needs, and ideas for improvement
This will require:
Hiring and training committed support staff
Developing agronomic programs resulting in healthy, weed-free surfaces
Ensuring proper selection, function and application of mowing, cultural, and other equipment
Continuous maintenance and auditing of irrigation system
Compliance with regulatory issues and safety training standards
Budgeting and planning
Proactive communication with golf course builder, golf course architect, coaching staff, athletic department staff and the Troon management team
A passion for managing golf surfaces
Construction oversight experience
Golf course grow in experience
"Mountain" golf course management experience including an understanding of groundwater flow and springs.
B.S. in Turf, Soils, Crops, or Horticulture
Demonstrated understanding and management of factors contributing to green speeds. Ability to manipulate factors and tailor green speeds, firmness and smoothness to the coaches' requirements.
Experience and complete understanding of 2 wire irrigation systems
Golf course construction experience
